How would you guys recommend going about learning and memorizing algorithms, then being able to recognize the cases? I need to know how to properly practice this stuff.

First, just keep repeating the alg, then you can actually watch what you're doing and occasionally look on you sheet if you forget what moves you need to do. Then, the alg should become sort of intuitive as you can see what's happening to pieces, like how they are broken up and put back.

For memorizing them, just do the alg over and over again. Try to find patterns or triggers if that's helpful. As to being able to recognize the cases, that's a little tricky. Try to memorize what the case looks like, and after that, it's just a matter of coming across that case enough times in normal solves until you can recognize it easily.
Go as slow as you need to in order to not have any pauses. Don't look at the pieces that you're pairing up; instead, look for other corner-edge pairs. If you can't do that, just work on solving F2L pairs blindfolded until you feel comfortable with not looking at them.
Depends on what you already have. You could go to different cube stores, look at their products and find one that you would like to figure out without a tutorial. Maybe square 1, super square 1, blade cube, or some type of siamese?
