How to enter the weekly competition

Five steps to your first weekly competition entry, formats, and the questions people ask.

The weekly competition is a free, online speedcubing competition that has run on SpeedSolving.com every week since 2006. About 200 people enter each week, from first-month beginners to world-class solvers, in every WCA event and a dozen more. One entrant is drawn at random every week for a gift card from the sponsor, TheCubicle, so you do not have to be fast to win something.

How to enter, in five steps

  1. Log in to the forum. Your forum account is your competition account; there is nothing extra to set up. Not a member yet? Registering takes a minute.
  2. Open the Competition tab at the top of any page and pick Weekly Submit, or use the button above.
  3. Choose an event. Each event shows its scrambles for the week (official TNoodle scrambles for WCA events). Do the solves in the order given, with normal WCA rules: 15 seconds of inspection, any timer you like. Our built-in timer works on a phone and keeps your sessions.
  4. Type in your times and save. Use DNF for a failed solve. You can enter more events, or edit what you entered, any time until the week closes.
  5. Come back for the results. The week closes on Monday night (00:00 Tuesday GMT). Results and your personal records are on the Competition pages, and a summary is posted in that week's Weekly Competition thread, where everyone talks about how it went.

Questions people ask

Do I have to enter every event? No. Most people enter two or three. Enter one if you like.

I am slow. Should I still enter? Yes. Half the field averages over 20 seconds on 3x3, and the weekly draw is random. Entering every week is also the easiest way to track your own progress: the Competition pages keep your personal records and history.

What if I miss the deadline? Post your times in that week's forum thread and the organisers will include them if it is reasonable.

Which puzzles can I compete in? All WCA events, plus 2-3-4 up to 2-3-4-5-6-7 relays, Mini Guildford, Kilominx, Redi Cube, Master Pyraminx, Face-Turning Octahedron, Curvy Copter, Mirror Blocks, 15 Puzzle, Match the Scramble, Speed Fewest Moves and 4x4 Fewest Moves.

Who runs it? Forum members, for free, since 2006. Questions and problems go to the Forum Competitions forum or to Mike Hughey by private message.
