So I keep hearing why some people do or don't buy KO puzzles, but there really isn't a lot of info on them. For one, are KO puzzles illegal to buy/own?
They're not illegal to own. The people making them could be sued, and I think the companies selling them... maybe could just be forced to not sell them. But the police aren't going to knock down your door and raid your puzzle collection. :)

is there a big chance my average will increase when i get a ultimate lubix guhong,
atm i have a storebought, so it's pretty bad.

Depends, if your storebought allows you to do finger tricks and move the layers with just a finger flick, then you should improve because the guhong will let you do fingertricks and stuff so your times should get better

For a few solves you may not be used to the speed and smoothness, and you'll overturn a lot and slow down, but after about 10 or 20 solves, your times should improve.

When doing f2l is it better to create 2 pairs on after the other and insert them or create a pair look ahead insert and create and insert the next pair?

Not sure I understand the question, but for F2L ideally what you want to be doing is while you're pairing/inserting a pair you should be looking elsewhere on the cube to find your next pair, which you can then start solving straight away, so there is no pause in solving.

This is a bit off topic, but when I started cubing, that was totally what I thought was going to happen. I had bought a KO puzzle, and I was terrified the police were going to come crashing into my room and raid my cubes.

whats the best way to break in a rubiks cube?

Solve it repeatedly.
Or use some kind of abrasive. Like sand. Fine sand. Or dirt. Worked on my old storebought.
But repeatedly solving should work.

Edit: oh and my type c reacts rather well to being dropped.
My eastsheen 2x2 is now awesome after dropping it out of my pocket while cycling.
Well, it's a lot better. Still locks a bit.

Bonus Bump for those who switched to cubesmith's half bright sticker set:
How long did it took you to get accustomed to the stickers?
last weekend I restickered my 4x4 and my times went 10 seconds up, from 1:00 to 1:10 avg..

It took me about a week to be back down to my normal times consistently. I would be pretty close to my normal times after about 5 or 6 solves during each session, but it still was a bit awkward. Also, if you switch them to half-bright on one of your cubes and you like the look, switch it on all of the cubes and puzzles that you speedsolve. I hated switching from half- bright to regular color scheme before I changed all of my puzzles to half- bright. It always took me a long time to get re-acquainted with whichever color scheme I had just switched too. All of my puzzles are half- bright now and I never plan on going back to regular colors.

I use the beginner's method for square 1. what algorithms should I learn first? which will be most necessary to learn? I am asking because for something like 3x3 you dont want to learn algorithms in this order olls with the two look olls last and then pll. You want to learn 2 look oll, 2 look pll then full pll and then full oll.

EDIT: i hope you can understand how confusing it is to know which algorithms I should learn http://www.jaapsch.net/puzzles/square1.htm
