The One Answer Question Thread

My stackmat timer has stopped working. I believe the battery is dead. Does anyone know where in the U.S. I can get a replacement?

Replacement battery? My stack at uses triple As and those are quite commonly found at any store. If it's a strange little circular battery, auto zone has those, or try best buy maybe.
If you mean where can you buy a new stack mat, I have no idea my friend. Try thecubicle.us since they are American.

I am now in moment, when my avg12 are usually in range 32-35s. My PB solve is 25.13.
I am using 2 look OLL (cross-> one of 7 OLL's).
Do you think it's good moment to start learning full OLL, or I should practice look ahead/turning speed first?

Um, do you know full PLL or just 2-Look? If it's 2-Look, I would say learn full PLL first as I'm sure many people would say here. If you've already learned full PLL, you could start learning full OLL. It's really up to you. It would also be helpful if you did some kind of breakdown of every part of your solve: Cross, F2L, OLL, and PLL. This would help other people tell what parts of your solve need the most help. For example, to get sub-30, you may not need to learn any OLL's. It could be simply looking ahead during F2L or even some cross practice. Hope this helped.

Assuming you know full PLL, I'd suggest that you work a bit with your F2L and your OLL; learn the easier OLLs, and refine your F2L by practicing harder cases and/or looking up algorithms for the cases that take you too many moves.

If you know full PLL already and enjoy learning new algs, why not? See this thread for ideas on which OLLs are worth learning.

The One Answer Question Thread

Could somebody tell me how I can memorize 3x3 1-look OLL easier? I know F2L intuitively, and would like to learn how to do OLL fairly well by June. ^^; I'm going to my first competition, and my state has only had 8 people compete, so I want to at least get in the top 5 fastest times for my state this year.

PS, I have the badmephisto algorithm OLL sheet printed. I just need help memorizing them now.

Categorize them in the way you find best; either by algorithm (finger tricks) or by the appearance of the OLL case.
For example, there are 4 cases that have a small "L" and nothing else, so you could learn those as a group.
Or, you could learn all the algs that go like F (x number of sexy moves) F' all as a group, then all you have to remember is what the OLL looks like.

And try to make algorithm learning easier than recognition. What I mean is the harder part shouldn't be remembering how an alg goes, it should be having to correspond an alg to an OLL case.
Lots of algs are easy to memorize, for example R U2 R2 F R F' R U2 R' = (R U2 R') (sledgehammer) (R U2 R')

My last advice is to pace yourself. Learn x number of cases a day, however many you're comfortable with. If you learn more one day simply because your brain can handle it, it may not keep that information until the next day. You could remember the alg and not which case it corresponds to, or be like "oh yeah i know how to do this case" and then forget the other half. If you learn a comfortable amount each day you won't have to backtrack.

So I don't have any crc, jigallo, lubix or any lube like this for my Zhanchi, should I just put some vaseline in it? Is vaseline better than nothing?
