Well, how I should put it is...

I'm efficient when I REALLY slow down, and look ahead, but I'm trying to find a way of practicing looking ahead, and getting faster while doing it.

Practice with a metronome. Set it to 1 tps (60 bpm) and as that gets easier increase the time.
Also practice the cross blindfolded. When you can do that every time, try to anticipate where the first edge/corner pair lands and expand to x cross whenever you can.

Hope this helps.

What's a good alg to solve this case for last two edges on 6x6

X O
O X
X O
X O

Solve the two inner wings like you would on a 4x4: Flip one set of edges over so that it looks like this:

X O
O O
X X
X O

The inner wings must be the same colours on the same slice. Then you just slice one wing over, flip it and then slice back. Then simply solve what's left like a 5x5, treating the solve inner wings as a midge.

For 5x5 centers, at what stage should one learn algs for last 2 centers, sub60, sub50, sub40?
(there are 18 algs, so dont tell me just to learn them regardless of how much time i take, i want to set an aim first, btw i just hit sub60)

It is purely intuitive. Just experiment around with them. But since they are so easy and they help with your times, 'learn' them when you are comfortable with the rest of the solving phases. I'd say sub-60 centers mean that you're fairly comfortable with center construction, go right ahead.

Does rounding the corner stalks of the 7x7 help reduce the popping? I get about 2-3 pops in a solve, mostly the oblique centers.

Can someone give me the link to the cube solver that has all the steps and all the sub-optimal solutions? I really need to bookmark it :p

You talkin about this? http://laire.fi/jarcs/

What's a good way to practice lookahead (and/or light yet fast turning) other than the metronome? I find the metronome at high speeds really makes my turn style rough which is just annoying and against what I'm trying to get at, light, fast turning.

Yes 5BLD, that was it. Thanks! *immediately bookmarks*

As for your question, I turn just as fast as I normally would during a solve, but force my self to look ahead. That's the only way I practice it, since I don't have a metronome.
