Does anyone have an estimate on how many cubers there are? I know "cuber" is sort of a broad term, let's just say it means someone who can solve a rubiks cube and is trying to get faster. I guess you could just count the amount of members on speedsolving, but seeing as about 10,000 of them (I think I got that number right) haven't posted more than ten posts, I don't think that would be very accurate.

Very good question. Things to consider though, this is only the main English language forum, I'd imagine a huge number of cubers are from China. Also the WCA stats are helpful, but so I'd imagine many cubers never go to competitions.
What you could do is use the number of cubers on here (who have been active in the last year) who have and haven't got a WCA profile tied to their account, to create a rough ratio of competition attendance, then apply that to the number of world wide competition addendants from the WCA site in the last year.

How would you suggest I do that? I can pull up a list of members easily enough, but I don't see how I could separate the ones with a WCA profile tied to their accounts with the one's who don't.

Dunno about 'standard', but the scheme on QJ pryas is:

Put the pyra on the table with a face facing you. Green bottom, yellow front, red right, blue left.

For mega it depends what stickers you have as to what schemes you can use, and there really isn't a standard, just the ones that come with the different brands.

Thank you, and the stickers I've got are the ones that come in cubesmith's megaminx sticker set..

I have no idea, sounds like a long and painstaking process, unless an admin can help out.
I imagine I could take a few hundred members, figure out what percentage of them have a WCA account registered to them, and use that to get an estimate from the rest of the members. No very accurate, but it's just an estimate, I don't need an exact number. I'll try it in a few hours (I'm on my phone right now).

no matter what you'd be doing it have to be practice of some sort. Force yourself to not look at the pieces you are solving, try solving one pair blindfolded and mentally track where the next corner/edge/pair will be. Then practice doing two pairs at once blindfolded. Apply the same ideas to cross->f2l transition.

This is all assuming you're using CFOP.

Of course I'll have to practice some how, I meant without just doing casual solves.
