SQ1 NEWB ALERT! lol

Is there a standard way of holding the SQ1? I've noticed that if I hold it one way the big side of the middle layer is on my right, holding it the other way the small side of the middle layer is on the right. Some of the algorithms that I've seen only work when the cube is in one of those positions. IE (1,-1)/ only seems possible to me when the big side of the middle layer is on my right. So is holding one side of the middle layer on the right more common over the other, or do I just need to negate the algorithm to fit my current situation?

edit: on second thought, How would I change an algorithm to fit the opposite side of the cube? I've tried switching the direction of each move in the alg, and swapping the position of each move in the alg and neither seemed to work. :/

But they have already there patent of how the mechanism work.
Then it is only producing?

One problem with the big cubes is that you have a lot of unique pieces.
Each piece requires a detailled CAD drawing.
If I remember correctly the images in the patent are not CAD drawings so there a lot of work still has to be done to get into production.
And let's not forget the molds.
Even if they are using family molds (cavities of multiple part geometries in one mold) your are probably looking at several molds for a big cube.

I can imagine that they first want to make some money of the existing product before investing in hours (CAD) and molds for the next size.
As the market for big cubes is probably quite small this may take some time. Especially with all the mony they had to spend on IP.

What techniques are used to change cubing styles other than practice alot? I seem to be locking on every cube i own. (F2, fully modded guhong, A5, Dayan 4x4.) I think I'm more of a rough cuber.

Usually it's the split on the left. To fix this if it's on the right, just do (-1,1). Then you can do the alg!

Note: during F2B I sometimes hold it with the middle slice as an M slice.

Edit: if I understood your question wrong please say so.

For 3 cycle edges in blindfolded, what happens if I need to switch the buffer with another piece and only that at some point during the solve?
Right now I just leave it til the end and set up a H perm or Z perm or R2U2x3 or similar.
(I am just beginning to use freestyle for edges)

For the last two centers on a 5x5, is there any good alg for a "sune" type case, where you've got three corners that need to be switched. Also, is there one for three misplaced edges, or one where literally every single piece except the centers are misplaced? (yes, I have gotten that one plenty of times)

for the entire centre switch hold one on F and one on U and do:
M' U M U' Rw U2 Rw' Lw' U2 Lw
Its pretty fast, might not be the best.
