What the heck are you talking about? The first step in ZZ is Eoline and that can be 6 gen sometimes, depending on how many edges/where the edges are. Even if you were talking about blockbuilding, its not 2gen. its 3gen as pointed out above.
If you solve a cube like the Dayan 2 and a cap for a piece falls off then do you have to put it back on before hitting the timer or if it falls off at the last minute is it solved without it on?

I had this discussion with Bob Burton, as long as only 1 cap is out then it is fine because it's obviously solved, any more and you have to put them in.

I meant after the first step is done it is 2gen, my bad, RU or UL, yes technically that's 3 gen, but since i am horrible at blockbuilding, I do a cross and normal F2L atm, so its 2gen for me.

And even if you do normal F2L you'll still have to use 3gen, even if you do a rotation to make it R instead of L, it'd still be 3gen since it's using a 3rd face.
-_-
i know this might have been posted before. but.. how often should i disassemble my cube and clean out the pieces? I do about 3-5 averages of 12 a day and maybe 1-2 averages of 5 one handed on one cube. (Dayan Guhong lubed with lubix and nothing else)
I also consider myself a pretty heavy-handed cuber, being forceful with the cube
What method would you suggest for speedcubing the 2x2? I'm currently just adapting fridrich for it, but that seem way to sub-optimal. I would prefer a method with fewer new algorithms.

I lube my lanlan with Maru lube
I would suggest learning ortega for now since it is very easy and fast. If you find you get stuck with ortega at around 5 seconds, you could learn cll or eg
