When you're on the last 4 edges of 4x4 and all the unpaired edges are in the middle slice (between the D and U layers) and if you do a u then you can pair up two edge pairs, is their a way to utilize that?

y (F R' F' R) (U R U R') (U' R U' R') and mirror.
But mainly because I could just memo this as "Slamhedger then WV case"

You're the only person I've seen that used that alg too. I don't use it anymore, but I used to. I use

(R' U') (F U R U') x (R' U' R)

and

F (U R U') F' (r U R' U' r') for the other one.

move one of the edges to the U or D layer and use a u slice to make one edge pair out of the remaining three edges. then swap it with the edge placed in the U or D layer. but make sure that it is swapped so that when you slice back, another edge pair is left(because then youd have the parity thing or whatever its called.)

but as long as slicing back doesnt make another pair. Youre left with a simple 3 edge pair. move one of the remaining edges to U layer, using the two left slice to make one pair, then replace it with the one moved to the U layer so that when you slice back you have all three edges paired.

Find out how many turns your solution was. Then divide by how long it took you to do those turns. Aka if I had a 52 move solution and i did it in 12.38 seconds then (52/12.38) equals 4.2 TPS.

Question: I got a white haiyan memory in the mail today and my times jumped up. I avg about 30-31 seconds with my black guhong but on this cube for some reason I am averaging around 38. Im confused

Probably the colour differences. The other thing could be different "styles" of each cube, but they seem to be close enough when comparing pop/lock/cuts.

I would assume you record yourself and then you reconstruct your solve

@my question

Its not the style of the cube, (or feel) because I love the feel of the cube. Maybe because its a white cube? :/ Haiyan memories feel so nice. I like it a lot more then my Guhong

Well, i guess it's just the transitioning, i guess. Whenever you make a switch to another main (Which I assume you're doing) you need to start from scratch. Do like an average of 50, find how it locks, how it pops, get used to how much it cuts, etc. At max, it should take a week for you to get back to your regular average, but i doubt it will take that long. Just practice a little more than you usually do.

Ive switched mains a lot and none has made me avg like 8 seconds above what I normally do. Ive had a haiyan memory before, but it degraded and then i got guhong and now i got a haiyan back. And I still use my haiyan to help me memorize algs. So I can definately use the cube it just seems like I can't lookahead on it. My brother just told me its because its a white cube so I sould wait a day or two for me to get used to it.

Thanks guys

yup waiting and practice should do you good. Or get a black haiyan memory =/

during BLD ,what do most speedcubers prefer to do first....corners or edges?

It's common to prefer solving corners first, because there's less to remember, so it can go in short-term memory while the edges go in long-term memory. So the idea is: memorize edges, memorize corners, pull on blindfold, solve corners, solve edges.

But now some people are starting to experiment with the idea that maybe edges are still little enough to fit in short-term memory, so maybe it's better to solve edges first. So: memorize corners, memorize edges, pull on blindfold, solve edges, solve corners.

Or you can be as good as Ville and just put it all in short-term memory, since you won't have to remember any of it for more than 15-20 seconds anyway. :)

I really suck at BLD but I do corners first too. I memo corners last and cause there are a lot less of them I don't bother working out a good memo, I just keep the order in mind as I go straight into them.
