Thanks. So an H Perm (M2' U M2' U2 M2' U M2') would be 11 moves: 8 (STM M moves) + 3 (HTM U moves)?

No. STM counts a R2 as 1 for example. All 180° moves are considered to be one move. All slice moves count as one regardless if 90° or 180°. So it would be 7. Also you don't separate algs into different metrics. Use the same.

text based there's also Conrad Rider's tutorial : http://cube.crider.co.uk/

before Phil made his videos this was pretty much the best tutorial (and i think one of only 2 tutorials out there). It's how i think just about every ZZ solver i know learned the method. (this is likely changed since phil made his videos any newer users probably learned from his videos)

you can also ask questions in ZZ/ZB, people don't bite there and should answer questions about it, or you can find a local friendly ZZ user and ask :) we don't bite

I barely got local cubers.. the only local cuber (not really) is a friend that I taught how to solve the first layer of 2x2, left the 2x2 to him and told him to watch tutorials.. and another one... just turns the cube.. XD

Any one give me a Link to a video explaining a good 4x4 method with a lot of parity's shown.

i do y2(alg) more than i should
ideally though you should be able to recognize the PLL in your first look, AUF and just do it, then AUF to finish (i think)

Nomenclature questions (2)

Hey, let me apologize in advance if this is a duplicate question, but I looked and couldn't find it anywhere.

For the sequence: R U' 1 U' R' U 1' in Dan Harris book, Speedsolving The Cube, I cannont figure out what 1 is. I have experimented some and I am just not getting it.

Second question, y' is basically rotation the body of the cube left to right 90 degrees, yes?

Thanks!

1) It is probably a typo, and was meant to be either an uppercase or a lowercase L. The sequence R U' l U' R' U l' (with the ls representing turns of two layers on the L side) is useful for F2L.

2) Yes, pretty much. You can think of it as having the same effect as U', except on the entire cube instead of just the top layer.

Search for "Speedsolving the Cube Errata" in google and you'll find a link that has all the corrections. I've sent a few more errata suggestions to the publisher.
