I am considering buying some non-cube puzzles and was wondering what are considered the best/good brands and perhaps an estimate price of each of the these:
Pyraminx
megaminx
square-1
(recommendations of other puzzles?)

I was also thinking about magic/master magic or whatever but it seems like it is always "scrambled" the same way in some of the videos of seen, is this true? If so, seems kind of pointless, less of a puzzle and more like how fast can you fold and unfold a fancy piece of paper...

I have a question not worth a new thread.
I got a Shengshou 4x4 VIII a few days ago and I love it. The only thing bothering me is the tensions. Too stiff- doesn't turn well. Too loose- some pieces catch and once even a center popped.
My question is- how many turns starting from the stiffest position does it take to optimally tension the cube or is it something that is different for everyone? I do like the cube fast, but not too loose because I absolutely hate pops.

Experiment with it, it's impossible to tell this way. When it's too loose, tighten every side half a turn and try again. Trial and error. And for me when I'm solving a tight cube I think of it as breaking it in, so you can do that too.

Pyraminx: Mefferts tiled are said to be the best, I think they're around $15 iirc.
Megaminx: Mefferts are also considered to be the best, $28 for that one, but MF8s can be really good and they cost $11.
Square-1: MF8 Square-1s are considered the best, Cubetwist is an alternative but I don't hear much about it. MF8 costs about $10 on average maybe. Note that there are several types/plastic colours. Yes, Magic and Master Magic are all about linking the rings together as fast as possible.

Did I just break my Pyraminx?

Wait, nevermind. I just took a nail file (the closest thing I could find) and used it to bend the messed up plastic back into place. There's still some missing but it popped back on. Now there's another problem. Before this, I disassembled most of the Pyra, and now I need to screw that tip's set of center pieces back on. But I can't pry the tip back off to make the screw available. xD
