Well, can you do it sub 1-min? That should be very doable, if so, then try for 50s.

Reliable as in timer accuracy? Absolutely (in general)
However, they cannot connect to a computer

As far as reliability, I don't think a QJ would just break down on you...

As for time-accuracy reliability, that shouldn't be a problem either.

You should ask Meep (Kristopher De Asis). Not too long ago there was a conversation on the Rubik's Cube Solvers Vancouver Facebook group about making some. He posted this which isn't exactly the same but might help. I believe Turbo (Sittinon Sukhaya) said he knew the guy that made them so you could also ask him.

Those timers have a really short lifetime, I've met several people which had all the same issue, right after you lift your hands to start the timer, it shuts off..

Yes, and it's super frustrating! Stick with it and it will pay off, I just started working on lookahead about 2 weeks ago and I've already dropped about ~2 seconds from my average.
