Why isn't it just (6!) ? 6 choices for the first face, 5 for the second, etc.
Remember there are 6*4 rotations. 6 for each colour that can be on U, 4 for each colour on F for every colour on U.
6!/6*4 = 5!/4
= 120/4
= 30.

Also, bump:
What's the average movecount for CLL?
(E: obviously it varies depending on which algs you use, but I'm only looking for an approximation, like what's given on the wiki for other methods)

A more in-depth explanation:

There are 6 choices for the first face, 5 for the 2nd etc... So, the number of permutations is 6! = 720.

But, this 720 includes rotations. A particular colour can appear on 6 faces, and the other colours can be in another 4 rotations. So, there are 6*4 = 24 different rotations for each colour scheme.

To discount rotations, we need to do 720/24, which equals 30.

NB: yoinneroid's working is also correct.

Would it help to learn algorithms for F2L? Apparently the tutorial I watched didn't have any to memorize so I just did it without any set of moves to follow.

For 2x2...

QTM min:0 weighted avg: 8.463 max: 11

HTM min:0 weighted avg: 9.907 max: 13

Got this from here
Thanks! Do you also know what the average number of moves for a layer is?

Learn F2L intuitively; don't learn algorithms.

Competitions

Do you have to still pay the fee when just watching at competitions?
If you are watching can you just turn up on the day?

It depends on the competition. I don't think you have to pay to spectate since parents don't have to if they go to watch their child compete. However some comps don't allow spectators so it would be best to e-mail the organizer and ask them directly. I know quite a few people who've done just that.

Is learning COLL worth it? I average about 13-14 seconds, would it be a good idea to learn COLL, Should I focus on lookahead, or should I learn advanced F2L stuff?

so what part of zb that shove off a large amount of moves in the cfop method from 56 to 40?
You're taking the whole of CFOP and basically skipping a whole part of the solve every time. I can't see why it's as low as 40, but it should be at least 10 moves (a guess, but it still makes it lower than Roux) saved on average.

Should my cube be tight or loose for one-handed solving? The sides constantly go out of place and I can't really turn it
Dayan Zhanchi if that matters
