There are 3 ways I solve this.

Standard (two pairs at FR and FL): u' R U R' F R' F' R u...this is all you need really

Adj on U (UF and UR)
1. Setup: r2 D r' U2 r D' r' U2 r' solve: r U2 r D r' U2 r D' r2

2. Setup: r U2 r D r' U2 r D' r2 solve: r2 D r' U2 r D' r' U2 r'

Opp on U (UF and UB)
1. setup: x' r2 D2 r' U2 r D2 r' U2 r' x solve: r' F R' F' R U' R U r R'

2. setup: x' r U2 r D2 r' U2 r D2 r2 x solve: x' r2 D2 r' U2 r D2 r' U2 r' x

My goal is to learn F2L, maybe not all of it but a lot. I really don't know any F2L. My normal solve time is between 27.xx and 20.xx. i would just like to be sub 20.xx. My problem is F2L doesn't have much symatry like OLL and PLL. So any help you could give me would be nice.

You don't want to "learn" f2l unless you want to have a solid algorithm based solving style. Learn basic inserts like R U R', and see how the pieces move around. You will eventually pick up how to solve every case. You can also use badmephisto's video. Learn full OLL and PLL and work on lookahead. Thats what will boost you to sub 20.

I didn't know it was possible to only learn a little bit of F2L and not all of it. Well I guess it is if you try to learn F2L with algs but most people don't do that until they "master" intuitive F2L and are looking for more efficient solutions to certain cases. But in all seriousness there is only 3 basic F2L cases so in a way it can be somewhat like learning OLL or PLL. Once I learned that, F2L was a breeze.

so what part of zb that shove off a large amount of moves in the cfop method from 56 to 40?

There are still two LL steps, with similar move counts to OLL/PLL. So you save the cost of one F2L pair, which is about 7 moves.

I think 40 moves is a mistake. Zborowski's calculation to get that result assumes only 18.5 moves for cross and 3 pairs, which is way too low. Elsewhere in the same page he assumes 25.5 moves, which is more realistic but still a bit low. That would give 47 moves total, but 48-49 is a fairer estimate, assuming the alg move counts are correct.

That's great. Thanks for your help. I'm really enjoying the 4x4 but I do need a decent cube.

does anyone know a good cube simulator for mac?
preferably one that supports entering the amount of layers and really big cubes (20+ layers).
edit: and i would also be interested in the answer to bindedsa′s zbll question.

Why after I do and E perm I have to do a H perm?

you are off by a U or a U', check whether your alg needs the Front Right sticker to much the Right edge or the Right Front sticker needs to match the Front Edge sticker and always position you E like that, preferably too avoid AUF, which you should be able to do half the time, like a Z perm.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about a place to buy a dayan cube (dayan zhanchi sticker less to be exact) in Toronto or near there. I live right near chinatown so i thought there may be a shop that sells them. If not do they sell them in shops closer than China so i can get the cube faster without paying shipping?

Shipping is usually free from most cube stores, and not sure if many stores have Chinese speed cubes in the West.
