When doing a bigger average such as 50, 100 or even 1000, how should you count DNF's? It seems like it is just that if you get more than one, your whole average would be a DNF, but if that were the case, AO1000's would be near impossible. Is it just like a normal AO5?

It's not that hard to avoid DNF's. Just don't stop the timer if the puzzle isn't solved. -_-

Anyway, the way qqtimer has been doing this for awhile is trimming the n/20 best and worst solves (rounded up). So for an avg100, the 5 best and worst solves are ignored, allowing you 5 DNF's without a DNF average

Is it possible to learn full OLL/PLL in 2 days?
Yes it is. I did it in 3 days so I suppose it is possible to do it in 2 but most people would recommend against it. From experience I'd say that it isn't that difficult but it is definitely easy to forget algs in first few days if you do not practice all of the them on a regular basis until they all become muscle memory.

when tensioning my aosu it exploded (clearly i unscrewed it too far)
and unfortunately I lost one of the washers and i've looked everywhere for it
one of the arms of the core came off

anyway i put it back together tightened the tensions way down and it seems fine
but should i get a replacement washer?

You don't need to if you don't want to. The next time you order from somewhere, you could ask them for a free washer.

Ok thank you! Yeah, the only reason i have been getting DNF's is from hitting the timer wrong at the start or something. I will be more careful now.

Should I learn COLL or 2-side PLL Recognition first?

2-side PLL is more fundamental and easier to pick up in my opinion. COLL is a decently-sized algset that involves a new kind of recognition and could take you awhile to pick up. Even then, you'll only use it if you come out with all edges up.

My advice: try 2-side PLL recog first.

Question about 4 x 4 notation:
so Dw is the 2 layers on bottom, and d is just the bottom slice? If my 3 x 3 alg requires a Fw, is that turning 2 layers or 3? The F and f face, or the F,f, and b face?

Dw is both of the 2 bottom layers. In SiGN notation (not used by WCA), d also refers to both bottom layers. However, it refers to just the slice in normal (?) notation.
On 3x3, Fw is the front two layers (F face and S slice), like a B plus a z rotation.

If you are doing a move on a 3x3 cube that requires you to move 2 layers at once, it would be three on a 4x4, 4 on a 5x5, 5 on a 6x6, etc...

It helps when doing the 3x3 stage to just thing of it as a big 3x3, since I've had major mind derps where I forget how to do an algorithm for a split second, panic, and can't remember it at all.

Given 6 distinct colours, how many unique colour schemes are possible? (one colour per face, no repetition allowed)

Depends on your thinking of 'unique'

There are tons, if you change the shade and tint of certain colors, but also a very limited range if you only use one shade or tint of a color for each scheme.

Really, I'd say almost unlimited schemes. But I don't really know for sure.

first, let's have one fixed face, so we're left with 5 distinct colours
then choose a second face, this can be filled with any of the 5 left
choose a third one, can be filled with any of the 4 left
choose a fourth one, filled with any of the 3 left
choose a fifth one, filled with any of the 2 left
sixth will be whatever left

so, 5C1*4C1*3C1*2C1 = 5! = 120
seems too much, soo.. will leave this for someone else to figure :P

EDIT: oh I see the trap, some rotation thingy (well, I think in a weird way :P, basically the 4 faces other than the fixed face and the opposite face)
so maybe 120/4 = 30
which still sounds too much for me :/

I have no idea if the math is correct for this, but i think that if you use the same shades every time, there are 120 possible schemes.
If the bottom face is always white, then the top face would be 1 of 5 colors, and the next side would be one of 4 colors and the next 3 and so on.
So 5x4x3x2x1=120

Sorry, i did not see your post before i did mine, but we pretty much have the exact same idea, so i think that it is safe to say 120.
