Disclaimer: I don't know a thing about big cubes.

Case in question (all pieces except pictured are in a solved state)

I recently picked up a SS 5x5, and have been going head first at it since yesterday. I don't know anything beyond the 3x3 methods that can be applied to larger cubes, so I'm a bit lost. I've been getting stuck with the same issue at the end -- two pieces swapped+flipped -- every time I get everything solved. I'm under the assumption that this is some sort of parity error, but nothing I can find anywhere has any algorithm or suggestion that will solve this case that keeps popping up. Can anyone lend a hand? Thanks!

Zanchi fell on sand

My dayan zanchi cube fell on sand while i was cubing, i tried cleening it but i think some sand got into the core... I made a few solves after and i fell more friction. How do i get the sand out?

Should i relube it after?

Definitely yes, I actually recommend you completely diassemble it, screws springs and all that. If some of the sand ended up inside the center pieces it might deteriorate the cube and slow it down.

So take it completely apart, wipe every piece clean (insides of the center pieces included) and lube it completely (Crazybadcuber has a good tutorial on how to lubricate a dayan zhanchi on youtube).

I've got several new speedcubes arriving:

Zhanchi 57
Fanshi 57 & 54.6
Weilong

This is my first attempt to find a really good speedcube and start finally training my absymal last layer. I just don't know what the normal process is-I have differential oil on the way and I'm going to use that instead of the silicone spray I've been using for years. Would you play with them before lubing, or lube before extensive use? How about tensioning, what is a good way to find the correct tension? Where does the differential oil go?

Thanks.

Is there an equivalent to Winter Variation (F2LL) for the CFCE method? If the F2LL algs are for skipping OLL with the last F2L pair, I'd like a set of algs for skipping CLL with the last F2L pair. If no such method currently exists, is there any reason why it shouldn't? Thanks.

Peter, are you talking about 2x2? If you are, then try using TCLL (Chris' new method)

If you are talking about 3x3. I don't really know. The Winter Variation is an OLL skip with all edges oriented on the top with the last pair ready to be inserted.

By the way, what do you plan to add to the next pivot update? ^-^

By the way. What do you plan to add to the next pivot update

Thanks. Yes I was talking about 3x3 (CFCE is a 3x3 method). It seems to me that there must be something similar to Winter Variation for CFCE solvers.

Hehe. I will add some improvements for 4.2, but nothing major that would change the file formats. Copy and paste selected figures, semi-transparent option for figure builder window, etc.

The number of cases/algs. 6 permutations, 27 orientations; that's 162 algs and skip isn't one of them like it is with some alg sets. I've thought about this before, and it would also be good for stuff like Roux/ZZ/FreeFop, but with that alg count you may as well be using ZZ-b.
I'd also like for algs to be generated, but whenever I try doing something like that I often get bored very early on and stop doing it. I may try going through slowly, one WV case at a time. If I do one a day I could finish in a month... but I'd probably stop after a week.
BUT I'LL TRY.

Received my gen3 QJ timer and it sucks. It either doesnt start or stop most of the time, sometimes it even likes to start whenever.

Sooo.. Where can I get a gen2 speedstacks timer with a port (To Europe)? I hear gen3 pro timers suck too?

1. You've got to keep in mind that that 162 number doesn't include the mirrors where the pair is insertable by L' U L / R' U R. You'd have to be capable of mirroring all 162 as well if you want it to be useful. This is a lot of learning for something that can't even be used effectively in every solve.

2. WV is entirely solvable with 2-gen algs, which is generally fast. Some algs aren't 2-gen because a 3-gen alternative is even faster. WV is fast. When you introduce the aspect of solving CP, you make it so the majority of cases can't be solved 2-gen, and you'll probably end up with quite a few bad cases that are just not worth it, considering that you'll often use a few moves to set up the pair before doing the actual alg.

3. You'll have to learn to recognize CP in the awkward corner orientations of the WV cases. It's essentially learning CLL recognition all over again, adding even more learning on top of the large alg set, again for something that you won't even use in every solve.

If you want to have solved corners every time you finish F2L, your best bet is to learn a ZZ-d system and permute the corners of the cube before you even get to the last slot, where you could then use WV
