I am not sure should i post this question here but i want to know the corrent answer
can we have a phone in our pocket and on the metronome and keep a ear phone and listen to that in an official competetion because with metronome you can look ahead good

No.

How come you don't do that in yau on a 4x4?

Here's the difference:

5x5 and up - Upon pairing up 4 more edges after the cross, the L4E are all the middle slice, which sucks really bad (in most cases) on any size cube when you have to preserve the cross. Solving 2 F2L pairs first forces solving the L4E into a much easier 2-pairing style, so it makes both the final 3x3 step and L4E easier.

4x4 - Since people use other edge-pairing methods instead of freeslice for 4x4, half of the L8E automatically ends up in this kind of 2-pairing position, where there are 2 already-paired up edges in the back two slots. So you could solve two F2L pairs before doing the final 4/5 edges if you wanted to, but it wouldn't accomplish anything. It wouldn't make L(4/5)E any easier.

Before I took my break from cubing I rarely got sub-20 on 3x3. I have gotten back to my old averages. Are there any tricks or special ways to practice to get faster. My worst problem is recognition during F2L and the harder cross cases.

I am assuming sub-15 is possible with 2LOLL and that is my goal before I start full OLL again.

Okay, so I want to buy a 2x2 and a Megaminx, and possibly a Pyraminx. Any suggestions on the best cubes to buy? I've heard the WitTwo is awesome for 2x2, so I'm probably going with that but what about Megaminx and Pyraminx? As of now I have a Pyraminx that is over 20 years old or so, I don't know if it is a Rubik's brand or not, but it's almost unturnable. My main cube for Pyraminx is a mini-Pyraminx and it's not too terribly good either.

Thanks!

I just finished learning CLL for 2x2. I'm pretty solid with sune, anti sune, H, Pi, and L. It takes a while for me to recognize some T and U cases. Is this normal? Will my recognition get alot better?

probaly, just keep doing alot of solves

The ridges are to help with grip while turning, so it depends on if you want the help or not. If you are not planning on competitions I would get the dayan stickerless. Saves money and time replacing stickers later on.

Ridges are legal in competition, correct?

How do I improve my times on a 5x5 more? I currently average around 5 minutes and it seems like I'm a bit stuck at this level.
I just did a hand scrambled solve and my breakdown times are:
  • Centers - 1:14.18 min
  • Edges - 2:09.00 min
  • 3x3 stage - 59.21 min
= 4:36.39 minutes

To provide more information:
  • My solving method is reduction
  • for edge pairing, I use free-slicing
  • at the 3x3 stage, I use 2 look OLL (sometimes my new-learned COLL's if a case I learned occurs) and PLL
  • I use basic F2L
  • I use 2 look PLL for the following permutations: H, Z, R (b), all G-Perms, L-Perm, E-Perm and N (b)
  • My cube is an unmodded, but lubed and medium tensioned Shengshou 5x5

And I'm not sure if that's a bit subjective, but my look-ahead is mediocre. I pause not often, but sometimes to look for another piece. Sometimes I try to setup 2 pairs at once if that's handy after I completed my first 4 edges. Can I improve by at least 1 minute without learning more algorithms?

Thanks for any answers.

I would begin with the easiest parts to do over and over, the centers and 3x3 section, since they are the easiest to scramble. aim for 30-45 seconds for centers to begin with. you should learn your plls and practice them on your 5x5. I still have a hard time. if my cube locks up during a pll, occasionally I forget where I am at since my PLLs are muscle memory. After you get better at centers, start solving whole cube again and work on edges. One thing I did on my 5x5 during freeslicing was breaking previously solved pairs while solving new ones to keep it going and practice recognition. I am still pretty bad at 5x5 tho since I have bad recognition speed.
