I florian modded my 5x5, almost. I didn't mod the edge pieces at all because I got tired of modding for today but still wanted to try it out. The cube is very hard to tension and a center corner piece just popped. Will modding the edge pieces fix these problems or have I overmodded something? I also swapped dayan springs in and the cube hasnt been lubed. At first at tight tensions I couldnt make it cut even the stock tension amount. Now the cube is so loose that I can twist corners (not during solves though).

Here are some examples of how modded the pieces are:

Some corners are modded a bit more than that though.

Looks good not over modded and finish the edges that will help alot.

I switched out the SS springs for Dayan in my 6x6, and that helped a lot. But I found after modding the 5x5 it was already plenty loose with the stock springs. Try switching them back.

I did some underwater solving with a white 50mm ZhanChi. I noticed that the middle of the screw hex has some rust on it. There was also some on the center cap, but i wiped it off. Will the rust somehow spread to the whole screw? I noticed the rust when i took the whole cube apart. I didn't see any rust on the rest of the screw. Thanks for replying!

Got all over the screws and cores of my Guhong V2, Zhanchi and WitTwo v1 :/

I wish the screws and brings were stainless steel.

Rust is caused by iron oxidation in the presence of moisture or water. It is a chemical process and thus requires moisture of some kind to start. Rust can't spread. Even if moisture is present, rust still can't "spread" new rust is created as layers of iron oxidize.

Yay, how much you have to mod depends on the version of you cube. V5 barely needs it.

I currently have what I believe is a shengshou 4x4. I do not know which version it is, just that I have had it for quite a while(a year or two at least) My times on it are around the same as my other 4x4s. Very minamla lockups and it will cut half a cubie. Will the florian/konsta mod make it better? or does that only apply to certain versions.

I thought you didn't have the v5?

I have a v5 that I Florian and Konsta modded, it is WAY better than anything unmodded. Rather than corner cutting half a cubie, it cuts about a cubie and a half. I don't know where all this "SS v5 doesn't need modding" is coming from. It's inner layers are certainly better than on earlier versions, but Florian modding reduces lockups and increases corner cutting significantly.

This is based on youtube reviews I've watched. So far none of the reviews I've watched have complained about inner layer turns.

The florian mod obviously helps with cc and rcc, but then again Felik's doesn't seem to need it? I guess breaking a cube in really well does the trick too. It's hard to say since I can't really tell when someone is really accurate at turning when speedsolving or not. Cyoubx explains this the best. Some people just dont like modded cubes no matter "how much better" they perform. If I had very accurate turning a florian mod would just make the cube flimsier than I maybe like.

I'm getting a v5 very soon and I'll be comparing the completely modded v5 to an out-of-the box v5 to a modded v4.

Edit: Status was shipped out 13 days ago from zcube.cn so should be any day now.
