I would never actually memorize it, well of course unless I do like 500+ solves or something where it would become mostly automatic

do that

if you learn which keys do what moves then thats probably not going to help, if you randomly asked me what T does on 3x3 sim then I'd have to think about it (I think its l' or x, not sure)

I know that, but read my question more carefully.

Yes. You can use white stickers on a white cube.

no, you can't sticker 5 sides and leave 1 side unstickered if thats what you're asking

ok, gracias

edit: oh and do you think I should start with the hi-games sim, or go straight to qcube?

Hi-games makes more sense but qcube could help yer piece tracking
For me the whole point of sim is that you don't annoy the people around you with cube noise, so you can still practise in the library

Well there are some obvious differences such as the centers and edges, but the steps are still the same.

No, the steps are not the same. With Yau5, you solve 2 F2L (er, F4L) slots before pairing up L4E. You do not do this with yau4.

But redux is by far the most efficient for speedsolving.

I have done movecount averages with regular redux and Yau5, and I consistently get lower movecounts with Yau5.
