The One Answer Question Thread

Average of 2 is always DNF since the best and the worst is removed. After removing them, nothing is left to use for the average

I understand what you are saying, but it's just an error in the name I assigned it. What I mean by Ao2 is the average of all of the times in both sets, as if they were combined into one, not just 2 values. So it would leave you with 10 times, minus the best and worst, leaving you with 8 times to find the mean with. And that would give you what I called, the Ao2. I suppose a better name would be AoA? (Average of All)

use feliks Zemdegs PLL on youtube his name is fazrulz1. They are brilliant!
I'd actually recommend using the speedsolving wiki page to learn PLL, since it lists many different algs for each case, allowing you to decide what algorithms work best for you, since everybody is different and will have different preferences.

probability of each perm:

Skip: 1/72

Ua: 4/72 (1/18)
Ub: 4/72 (1/18)
H: 1/72
Z: 2/72 (1/36)

Aa: 4/72 (1/18)
Ab: 4/72 (1/18)
E: 2/72 (1/36)

T: 4/72 (1/18)
Ja: 4/72 (1/18)
Jb: 4/72 (1/18)
Ra: 4/72 (1/18)
Rb: 4/72 (1/18)
F: 4/72 (1/18)

Ga: 4/72 (1/18)
Gb: 4/72 (1/18)
Gc: 4/72 (1/18)
Gd: 4/72 (1/18)

Y: 4/72 (1/18)
V: 4/72 (1/18)
Na: 1/72
Nb: 1/72

Although people don't usually learn it based on probability. If you mirror algs, G perms are the most common, followed by J/R/A/U. From 2-look you should already know U perms and maybe A perms, so you already have some of the most common cases down.

Normally people learn T/J/F/Y together because their algs are so similar. I learned N last since it almost never shows up and it's typically harder to memorize than some of the other cases.

How many moves does it take on average for an experienced speedcuber to solve an extended cross?

i only do an xcross when i see one, therefore around 5-7 normally.
but if you gave me a random scrambled cube and told me to do it, it'd definitely take more than that.

anybody have any good algs for last two edges on 6x6 and/or 7x7

(specifically thinking about this case, but any algs would be great cause i only know the ones transferable from 5x5.)

Also if anyone has a good pure parity alg that isn't the really annoying, long one, it would be greatly appreciated. edit: or a parity alg that flips the inner wing edges on 7x7

I've been stuck at 3 minutes for 5x5 for a month and a half now, and i just cant get any faster. Any tips? I would be happy if someone pointed me towards advanced centers and edge-pairing

What are your breakdowns? What method? Is there a video? I found one but you should put it up with questions like these. Based on your 3:15 solve, your 5x5 looks too big for you, what brand is it? And centers, turn faster. Become familiar with patterns and lookahead, it's easier than F2L. Edges need more lookahead too. At this point you should familiarize yourself with the patterns and look for tips and tricks, kinda like getting used to F2L.

Yeah that video is kinda old, but i still haven't got faster. I use reduction, and my cube is a Shengshou. I'll try a solve and take the breakdowns.

Centers: 52.42
Edges: 1:29.68
3x3: 33.50
Total time: 2:55.60

Yup, the best you can do at this point is get used to the cases, look for shortcuts and turn faster, especially during centers and 3x3.

How do Pre-scrambles work in FMC? For an example, if you do U as a pre-scramble, do you have to solve it to a state where you only need to turn U' to solve it completely?

And could someone explain the insertion system. I've seen posts where people write solutions like this (example i made up): U F R' B * F R' U' D2 F, and then later there is something like this: U F2 D' L R2 B, Insert at *

What does that mean?

Is an average of 5 just the average time of any five consecutive results? Or must one do one average of 5, then start a separate average of five after that?

In other words, if one did ten solves in a row, would that give you two averages of five or would it give you five?

When counting moves in a solve, do rotations count?
Nope

Pretty sure it's 5

Are there any things i can do (mod) to make my store bought better at cutting corners. Also,is there another method for improving lock ups too, thanks in advance!

Can someone link me to a video on how to do the last 4 centers on a 4x4 with yau method? I realize it is intuitive, but a video would be good about tips for the last 4 centers.

Can anyone link me to a list mapping OLL cases to OCLL cases, if the standard EO is applied first? Basically I want to know which OLLs end up at a given OCLL when using 2-look, without testing them all out by hand. Thanks in advance.
