When is somebody usually considered sub-(insert time here)? Is it usually when they average below that, or get almost all of their solves below that, or what? Most of my timed averages are just barely below 20 seconds (my lastest ao50 was 19.25) so I'm trying to decide whether I should consider myself sub-20 or not.

if you have an average of 50 or more, i would definitely consider you sub 20.

This is very vague, but I consider myself sub13, for example, cause I can pull off 12s solves quite easily. I have plenty of 11s too, but I'm too inconsistent therefore I'm not sub12 yet.

I did the konsta mod to my 4x4, and my times dropped. My inner layers didn't catch so much anymore. Then suddenly my times became slower (about the same as the times before the mod) and the inner layers started catching again. Any ideas what could have happened? Do i have to redo the mod?

CubeTwist by far! Or the MF8 v1. But definitely NOT Calvin's ; it overshoots like crazy and it's a piece of garbage IMO.

How many solves have you done until they start locking again? It might be that your tensions are off. More details will help. You probably don't have to redo the mod, I know someone who spent only 2 hours modding his SS 5x5 (very little plastic shaved off) and it's still damn amazing. Undermodding is not a problem, unless you somehow sculpt the pieces out of their original size and they start catching because they don't fit anymore.

I did about 30 solves. How do i tension a 4x4 properly? It feels really good now. My times have dropped a little again (i stopped looking at the timer when i finished reduction to see how long it took).

Well there you go, your problem is freaking out when you look at the timer, hence the lockups :p What I do for all my cubes is to screw it in an arbitrary amount (e.g. 6 complete tunrs) for all the sides, assemble it and then fine tune it. Do a solve, and tighten/loosen each side by increments of 1/4 or 1/2 a turn till I like how it feels.

Like kunparekh said, check out badmephisto's videos. You can also check out Thrawst, who I am following currently ( I've watched all of badmephisto's videos).
PS: Friddich has one d and an extra r, and if you spelled it wrongly on purpose, please ignore this note
