Re: The One Answer Question Thread

If you've come to that conclusion and don't understand what's the point then you don't really need to consider it any further. Just stick with oll pll since its already an established decent ll method

hey so how do you all memorizie OLL and PLL algarythms because i cant memorize em' all.
p.s. i go a guhong v2 stickerless its amazing.

These are just some random ones I found on Cube Explorer. Some have AUF's, the default is UBL and UFR switched, along with UB and UR.

EDIT: I personally like the fourth and the fifth ones best.

Thank you so much!

IMO right away. If you can stand the feel of them un modded, keep it. Otherwise just go for it.

MY QUESTION would be...should I mod the corners of the center pieces of this thing? like in the very center? (also shengshou 4x4...)

i have been stuck at sub 1 min with 8355.I have seen people get sub 20.Any tips? thanks!!!xD

8355 requires a lot of moves (more than 100 per solve according to the wiki). If it were 100, then that would be 5 turns per second for a 20second solve. that would require a fast turning speed and constantly knowing what your next moves are going to be before you've finished the part your on ('looking ahead').
Are you sure you want to stay with 8355? Speed methods like Fridrich and Roux you can get sub-1 min with only 1 turn per second (3tps for 20seconds).
If you're determined to stick with it have you seen the advanced section on the wiki ( http://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/8355 )? But really this method is only intended to make it easy for someone to solve the cube.. not solve it quickly.

I see that the only thing that would be very usefull is ZBF2L+ZBLL. Last layer in one alg is amazing but recognizing one of the 500 cases just suck.

I find it easier to think about it like this: ZBF2L (more commonly called ZBLS now) is like a Much more complex version of OLL, and ZBLL is a MUCH more complex version of PLL.. so the only think you're actually saving over a CFOP solve is the equivalent of one F2L slot, but you're loosing by having two stages with significantly more difficult recognition/recollection (and executions as the algs can't be as nice as OLL/PLL).
My opinion is ZB *may* have some advantages in Fewest Move competitions (if you learn a move optimal version of it), however in speedsolving it's almost a complete waste of time.

1. Is there one basic approach to speedsolving the megaminx that most people use?

1a. If so, are the steps of that method basically just: star (similar to 3x3 cross), CFOP style F2L (done repeatedly), LL?

2. I only know how to solve a megaminx with a method that I came up with. I can solve a 3x3 using CFOP. For speedsolving purposes, should I watch or read a tutorial for the megaminx?

Thanks.

Bump.

There are 2 main methods, but they are only slightly different.
Both methods start as follows: star (cross analogue) then the 5 F2L slots that fill in around the star. Then you can either build ECE blocks at the bottom of each S2L face (Second 2 layers, the rest that isnt the last layer) and then fill in 5 F2L slots, or you can block build, by placing the 2 edges to complete the star on an adjacent face, then fill in the 3 slots around that, then rotate and repeat. (Bad explanations but w/e. :b )
After both of these methods, you just do LL.
This is a good megaminx tutorial for beginners: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw6J0C2Opfg
This teaches the first method for S2L, the 5block5slot way of doing it. I can't find a tutorial that uses the other way. :/

Have Fun! Megaminx is a great puzzle :3

Any Compatible with Stackmat Pro

I just upgraded from a normal Gen 3 timer and I am fairly happy with it, though it is not as sensitive and is a little bit buggy. I got it mainly for the ability to plug in and have a program record my time so I can see my progress etc. I have it plugged in, and my computer recognizes it, but I just figured out that Prisma Puzzle Timer isn't compatible with it. I really want to know if any applications do work with it, as it was my main reason of buying it.

I see a lot of people doing this algorithm, it basically scrambles it and puts it back together, if you will.

Some examples I have found:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=-YUEtbYk5mo#t=147s

I'm not quite sure if this is the right section for it, please inform me if it isnt.

anyway, can anybody tell me how to do this please? I would like to know how :D

The second one is the T-Perm: (R U R' U') (R' F) (R2 U') (R' U' R U) (R' F')

Any algorithm will do :)
If you repeat it often enough (without error) the cube will return to it's solved state.

The number of repititions required depends on the alg.
Most PLL's: 2
OLL's: up to 8-ish?
M U2 M' U2: 3
Headlights alg: 3
R' F R F': 6
R U: 105

The list is endless
