So, I recently heard that it is actually good to not time every solve, do like 2-3 days where you do un-timed solves and then do a big timed average. I tried this by not doing any timed solves yesterday or the day before and went and did about 100 timed solves. What I noticed was that I became far less consistent and average dropped about 3 seconds. I was just wondering if this is typical? Am I maybe just having a bad day? Typically (like last week) I averaged about 23.5-24 seconds and the vast majority of my times fell between 20 and 27 seconds (with just the odd good/bad time out of that range). The average of 100 I did today was 27.38 seconds and my times were anywhere from 20 to 35 seconds, with only about 5 solves out of that range (a lucky 16; 19, 19, 38, 41). 30 second times were happening like 1 in 3 solves or so on average whereas a few days ago they would happen like 1 in 50 solves, quite rare and usually just from like mis-slotting or spending too much time trying to remember a new OLL.
So this happen to any one else, any one have any comments on this?

Also had another question: Like 1 hour ago I finally finished learning full OLL and was wondering for others who learned full OLL, about how long did it take before your times started improving? I learned full OLL rather quickly (2-4 algs a day) and didn't incorporate it into my solves (I was doing less solves anyway as I was spending a decent chunk of time learning the OLLs). I am now having some recognition and recollection issues (some cases I know well, others take longer) so my solves often are actually worse since recognition was almost instant with 2 look OLL (since there was so little to look for and few cases to distinguish). I figure eventually I will be able to recognize cases much faster but was just hoping for like an estimated amount of time?

O and sorry one last question. My cube is starting to feel inconsistent and often slower, but still quite fast. I was wondering if this is a sign I should re-lube it (it hasn't been lubed since purchase a couple months ago from Lubix and I have probably done over 2.5k solves since).

I order'd a ShengShou 4x4 a week and a half ago and I'm wondering what to expect! I'm really excited, getting tired of the lockups from my rubiks brand.

It turns very well, but if you don't turn accurately enough, then it can have a minor lock-up. There is a mod in the hardware area to fix that (Konsta's inner edge mod) though. It's still a great cube.

@retep That's really fast for learning OLL. Just make sure you're constantly doing them in solves. Don't fall back on 2-Look. Sometimes the best way to cement a case in your memory is to keep forgetting it and struggling with it. It will take a few weeks probably before you have your recollection/recognition down, but it will be worth the effort.

ok, thank you. Didn't think it would quite take that long, o well. But ya, I definitely wont be reverting back to 2 look OLL when I have spent so much time and energy learning something that is objectively better.

Buying ZhanChi premodded vs brand new?

Do you think there's any noticeable difference in buying a premodded and prelubed one (for example http://shop.speedsolving.com/shop/black-3x3x3-lubix-zhanchi-puzzle/ ) or just buying one brand new?

I am going to get a ZhanChi off Amazon so I can get a considerable discount (leftover GC balance), however I am wondering if I would get a noticeable boost from buying on premodded and prelubed. What would you recommend?

Note: I probably won't be lubing/modding a brand new one for a while.

Get an unmodded. Saves you money.
Just adjust the tensions to your liking, and if you want some lube in it, just go buy some CRC from a local hardware store. It's pretty cheap and there's tons of it in a can.

Ya I agree with blue devil, I got my guhong v2 from lubix and I feel like I way over paid and wont be doing that again. If you have a rubik's brand it will be a huge upgrade regardless, getting pre modded and pre lubed is a rather small boost, besides you might even feel more comfortable and confident if you decide to lube and mode yourself later.

Any Competitions in Manitoba?

I checked the WCA website and there are very few Canada competitions and none in Manitoba. So I was wondering if anyone knows about little unofficial ones or something similar, also what are the requirements to start one?

Thanx

Hi,
How can I make my Cube4You 3x3x4 turn better. I got it yesterday and it is slow andhas a really wierd turning, like the outer layes feel glidier than the inner ones when I make the 180degree turns. is it tight or loose?

Thanks, William

Is 3-in-one oil okay to lubricate my Stickerless Dayan Guhong with?

I read about someone who had the colour of their plastic begin to fade and looked stained after applying Silicone, i'm not sure what kind though. this bottle i have just says "3-IN-ONE Multi-purpose Oil" without any ingredients.

edit: it's fine, i just used like 2 drops so it shouldn't noticeably harm the plastic.
