Ortega is fast and easy to learn. CLL requires more algs but is "faster" than Ortega. EG has more algs than CLL, but CLL is a subset of EG.

Really though, if you want to be fast at 2x2, you'd learn all the methods like Ortega, Guimond, EG, etc, so you can use whichever will have the best solution.

still could take the same time

question: Should WCA make 8x8 an event since ss made an 8x8?

1. England and America are completely different.

2. Not likely until it's widely owned, and even then, given how long solves are going to take most competitions would want to avoid the hassle even if it were official.

Try to do as many solves as you feel comfortable with and have time for, and will enjoy. Everybody has differing levels of comprehension and dexterity, so they will improve at their own speed.
Just try doing some number of solves for a week, and if you don't improve that much, try doing a little more practicing, because you should be able to get into the 30s for 3x3 averages fairly quickly.

How long does it take to get really fast at the 2x2 and 3x3 and how many solves should i do per day???

It depends on every person. You should do about 5-10 solves in the morning to get warmed up, try to fit solves on the way to school/work (if you walk or take the bus), also at lunch, and try to spend the majority of your time solving. If you start to feel sore, stop, I have ignored solving pain and it turned into a torn muscle.

It also depends on what you call fast.

Edit: Stolen!

Also remember to find good ways or to improve your style of solving the cube such as finding for suitable algorithms, focusing on look aheads in F2L, trying to solve the cross blindfolded. These techniques do not come at you in a sudden, you need to practice these techniques some time before you get good at them.

As for solves, just do it when you have spare play time or when you have nothing else to do. Don't try to make yourself do a scheduled amount of solves per day, I mean, solving a cube is supposed to be fun. Just do it whenever you can, don't try too hard and secretly play it in school though.

If I, the average* modder, where to buy a V-cube 6, and try to the pi mod and stuff, what would you say the chances would be that I completely kill the cube, beyond the point of it being usable, and the chances of me being successful at modding it?

Average = I am no expert, and not too skilled, but I try to be somewhat careful.
