I believe he uses CLL and anti-CLL (which would look a little Ortega-ish). But I'd imagine most fast 2x2ers would slip in some Ortega if the scramble called for it.

My question: In Roux, what is the average movecount for second block? Mine seem very inefficient, at around ~16 STM, but contains a lot of <R, U>. I'm not sure if I should work on it, or just keep practising...

So in being hyper analytical about my solves trying to solidly break the sub-20 barrier i've noticed my first pair recognition is quite bad meaning the difference of about 5 seconds or so. That being said is it just poor cross planning on my part killing my look ahead or is there something else I could be missing?

Plan the cross as well as the location of the first pair.
Even you can try to plan out the whole cross + F2L pair as it's entirely possible.
