probably because the screws screw more into the cube4you core. therefore the puzzle can be a little more tight to hold in the pieces. if it is getting slow because it is tight then loosen the tensions slightly and lube it.

How does that help reduce pops?

When I swapped the core, the pops reduced significantly but the pops were more than what I would prefer.
When I further removed the washers, the pops were significantly reduced.

Maybe someone else can explain the mechanics of it better.
But from my observation, the "mod" allows me to tighten the cube more and yet maintain the speed. The pops are due to the weak hold on the edge piece. With tighter tension, the edge pieces are held tighter (its easy to pop an edge on unmod lingyun, but slightly more difficult to pop a modded one, depending on the tension)

Does it still pop? Yes but once in while when my a finger or turning accidentally put some hard pressure on an edge.

Edit: I start out with a loose tension and increasing tighten it up (1/8 of a turn) until I get the tension vs pop that I like (thro many, many solves).

I know I stopped on my 3x3 for a month or so, and worked on 4x4, mega, 3x3x5 and 3x3x7. And after picking up my 3x3, even though I forgot like every OLL, my times are sub 20, even thou I was barely sub 25 with 80% OLL.

I'm about to start relearing OLL, and I hope my times go down more. My goal is sub 15.

Also, it is pretty likely if you get fast at looking for one piece out of 200, that finding 1 piece in 150 is easier. Those are not literal numbers. Just an example.

Well this may sound weird, but i was cubing, my mom came up with cold coffee, so kept cube on my lap (scrambled)and had coffee, after having coffee i dint notice that some of it had fallen on the cube. So i started timer , after 10-15 seconds felt that my cube was quite wet. Finished the solve. Then wiped it from outside, but since then, my cube has been having a bit of sticky feeling(ultimate lubix guhong), though the lubix in it has almost evaporated/finished , so it was not super smooth either, but its just feeling quite sticky now. Though this thing hasnt affected my times as such, but Want to know from anyone experienced if this would be fine with my cube or should i do something to it ?

disassemble, put everything but the screws, springs and core in the dishwasher, then reassemble
