Turn faster.
But seriously...
1) Study your algs in slow motion.
For example, when doing R U R', upon further observation while doing it slow, you can cut the corner with U when the R turn exceeded the 90-degree turn by a bit, while you can cut the corner with the R' turn even before you complete 90-degrees with the U turn.
So if you put a lot of wrist force in the R turn (so as to always exceed 90-deg by a bit), and do the R' turn ASAP (even DURING the U turn if you wish), you will get virtually no lockups at all, even without being an accurate cuber.
I personally did this with Erik Akkersdijk's E-perm (among many other algs) when I was learning it, and I was easily doing no-lockup sub-2's just a few minutes after I first learned it.
2) Study your algs in slow motion, again.
This time, try to see which are the best grips and hand positions so as to minimize regrips. I personally did this with my V-perm. I use the CubeStation V-perm
case #14 and I changed the "l R" into an R2 combined with a cube rotation such that it has no pauses. I've gotten comments and cube meets that my "transition" is so fast, which is because there is no regrip at that point.
...
Basically, both of those are just optimizing your algs.
Coupled with LOTS of practice, of course.
