I just did a few RUR'U's as fast as possible and one smooth
the smooth one turned out to be faster because the cube didn't lock

so I'd say just try to turn smooth, speed will come on it's own

Turn faster. :p

But seriously...

1) Study your algs in slow motion.

For example, when doing R U R', upon further observation while doing it slow, you can cut the corner with U when the R turn exceeded the 90-degree turn by a bit, while you can cut the corner with the R' turn even before you complete 90-degrees with the U turn.

So if you put a lot of wrist force in the R turn (so as to always exceed 90-deg by a bit), and do the R' turn ASAP (even DURING the U turn if you wish), you will get virtually no lockups at all, even without being an accurate cuber.

I personally did this with Erik Akkersdijk's E-perm (among many other algs) when I was learning it, and I was easily doing no-lockup sub-2's just a few minutes after I first learned it.

2) Study your algs in slow motion, again.

This time, try to see which are the best grips and hand positions so as to minimize regrips. I personally did this with my V-perm. I use the CubeStation V-perm case #14 and I changed the "l R" into an R2 combined with a cube rotation such that it has no pauses. I've gotten comments and cube meets that my "transition" is so fast, which is because there is no regrip at that point.

...
Basically, both of those are just optimizing your algs.
Coupled with LOTS of practice, of course.

Ooh, I have one!

On a megaminx, if you scramble RU, after orienting the LL you can have both incorrectly permuted corners and edges, whereas on a 3x3, you only have incorrectly permuted edges?
This also means that megaminx LL can be 2 gen, right?

They are not available, but pretty easy to do.

Step 1. Scramble only outer layers
Step 2. Do r B' R' B r'
Step 3. Cube rotation
Step 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you think its good
Step 5. Stop

Yes. I actually had a thread a while ago about 2gLL for Megaminx. Because I use my index and thumb like the megaminx is some sort of video game controller, 2gen is really fast on megaminx (over 8 tps). However, I suck at megaminx. I forgot all the algs because I haven't practiced in almost a year. I don't even think I've solved the megaminx over 30 times ever.

Edit:

Chuber,

tropicalestore is the best.
