Is there a way to get used to the feeling of a cube's turning other than just using it a lot?

For example, when the DaYan GuHong first came out, the feeling of the cube was different than the FII and Alpha 5. But, the GuHong was generally considered to perform better than those other puzzles. So, I think, people just put up with the new and different feeling until they got used to it.

I am trying to get used to the DaYan ZhanChi in this way. I've never really had a main for very long. However, the cubes that I've used felt similar to the original mechanism Rubik's brand cube. I am just wondering how long it might take before I get used to a cube that's new to me.

In case anyone's wondering, yes it is lubed (though I need to clean out the puzzle and re-lube it).

You should probably be fully used to it in a couple hundred solves.

I cannot seem to find the thread with charts that compare the times of lots of competitors on different puzzles so you can see where you should match up puzzle vs. puzzle. If anyone could link it would be much appreciated.

You have to look at the previous page for 3x3 v 4x4/2x2 and earlier on the same page for 3BLD v 4BLD and 4BLD v 5BLD, but here are most of them.

Can anybody please make a tutorial on Ortega PBL Recognition? I learnt Ortega recently and since my PBL recognition sucks, LBL is faster for me. Please HElP

When you are planning out your first color, predict if you will get a bar or not on the bottom layer, then when get done with your OLL, you will only have to recognize what is on the U face, then combine it into the PBL.

Remember the whole, it won't happen overnight thing? That also applies to this, I mean you just learned Ortega yesterday right? Just practice and you will become more familiar with each case. It also helps to memorize the position of you bottom layer pieces so when you go into solving your top layer, you already know what PBL to do.

I do that in inspection. BTW I need 5 minutes to recognize a PBL.

I practiced PBL a lot, yet I cannot recognize any cases. I can do them when I learnt the algs by setting them up, but I can't recognize ANY case when I need to AUF during a solve. Also, any tips for OH?

Thanks! Why is it that rotational symmetry reduces the number of cases(H), but mirror symmetry does not (everything except sunes)?
I don't know, but it's something to do with being able to AUF and not being able to mirror the entire LL of a cube with magic :p
Also, what do you mean about sunes? There are the same number of S/AS cases as L/T/U/P.

I have a video about it. If it helps : http://youtu.be/wjDHezzDSf0

PS: My recognition is a bit odd. Give me some feedback other pro cubers.

Fridrich (CFOP) Method Modifications

Hello Speedcubers!

I'm a Fridrich solver (AO5 = 32s) and I'd like to try a modificaton of this method.
Someone teach me his method (I'll name it «My friend's Method») which consist to split the F2L in 3 parts, but still do the Cross - OLL - PLL.

1-Place 3 corners in the right place
2-Place 3 edges with the remaining emplacement that has no corner placed (with R U' R' or F U' F')
3-Do one F2L case

His method is fine, but I'd like to know if there is more Fridrich Method Modifications, because I'd like to learn some and see which is the best for me.

Thanks!
