could someone explain to me what the Yau5 method is?
and give me somewhere i can find a tutorial or something

I think I use Yau5 (not 100% sure), here are my steps
1. Opposite centers
2. Pair and insert 3 cross edges
3. Last 4 centers
4. Pair all F2L-pairs
5. insert two adjacent F2L pairs
6. Use open slots to build LL edges
7. Finish 3x3

Can anyone verify that this is Yau5, I based it off of Jay's walkthroughs.

The One Answer Question Thread

8? +16 iirc,
I'm sure I'll be corrected quickly if I'm wrong.

Starting and stopping timer incorrectly +4
Face off +2
Puzzle on timer at start +2
Touching puzzle at beginning and end +4
Over 15 sec inspection +2
Touch puzzle before judge has finished inspecting it +2

Have I missed anything?

Your's is similar. Yau5 would be, 1. Two opposite centers 2. 3 cross edges, all correct or one mispermuted 3. Finish centers 4. Do last cross edge
5. Edge pairing 6. finish F2L and LL like a 3x3.

Bindedsa's should be the correct yau5 steps (or close to correct), except that he missed the last cross edge, probably something he just missed
Rocky0701's step 4 doesn't make sense since edges are still unpaired, if he meant to pair those first, it's not yau5, but yau4 instead

What do most people average who go to competitions?

Someone can correct me if they know the actual average but competition averages pretty much range from 6 sec to over 2 minutes. It just depends on the competition and what the cut-off times are. At the competitions I've been to (not including nationals and worlds) the bulk of cubers average between 13 sec to 35 sec. Of course there are plenty of people who average above 35 sec but I feel most competitors at the comps I've been to average between that. But in all honestly it doesn't really matter. If someone is deciding whether or not to go to a competition I usually just tell them to check the cut-off time and go if they average below it.

I edited a little, but isn't Yau5 just normal 4x4 Yau applied to 5x5?
