Hi Chris, I do not know which bersion my SS 4x4 is but it has a tendency to lock up on vertical slice moves.

I find that r and r4 are OK but r2 is a recipe for lockups
Pretty annoying if you use r2 for edges like me (but I know you don't :))

Lubix plus traxxas, sounds like it might be overlubed. I would try wiping some cubies down and see if that helps. Also, lower viscosity lubes tend to work better on bigger cubes.

Swapping the springs for Dayan 3x3 springs is an easy mod that really helps the 6x6 in my experience.

just wondering if I am the only one...
I know how to solve a 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, ... but for some reason I always get stuck at the last stage where I solve like its a 3x3. I am extremely familiar with my 3x3 and go very quickly with my algs. My bigger cubes do not turn very well and I cannot use fingertricks like I would on my 3x3 so I have to slow way down and without the muscle memory I seem to get mixed up in my algs somewhere and screw something up. Do I just need better big cubes (mods, lube, different brands) or is this something that just comes with practice? Its been awhile since I have visited my big cubes and I never used to have this problem when I used a beginners method (which I don't even really remember anymore) and now that I am revisiting with a better method I am getting frustrated with messing up what comes so easily on a 3x3 and its making me wonder if I should put them back on the shelf for awhile or push through.

I have the same problem. I just solve my big cubes as a 3x3 occasionally. do avg of 5/12 and work on getting your times close to your actual 3x3 times.

sometimes cubes make a difference if they corner cut well, but precise turning also helps.

What is the best way to tension the Dayan 2x2?

When it's disassembled, try to make the distance between the centerpiece and core the same. Then assemble it and try to cut 45 degrees on a face. If it seems to get stuck by almost popping, tighten that face. If it gets stuck by just not being able to corner cut it because it's too tight, loosen it. Repeat until all sides can cut 45 degrees.
Just pretend it's a zhanchi and tension it the way you would tension a zhanchi.

My shengshou 6x6 is kinda slow. It has lubix and traxxas on it (a mix of them) besides tensioning again, will maru lube make it faster?

Pick one or the other for lubix and traxxas. Break the lube in and add a few drops of maru. It should make it faster. If you didn't already, change the springs to dayan springs to make the 6x6 better. The springs that come with the SS 6x6 are to strong.

I have the same problem or actually had. I started working my way up; Currently I'm very comfortable with the 4x4 and I'll stop constantly training that once I break the sub 1 barrier. After I'm done with that I'll give a go at the 5x5 and try to break sub 2 or 1:50. Then I'll move to 7x7 speedsolving as 6x6's are horrible from what I've read.

I havea very well modded 4x4 and a decently modded 5x5 so that helps too, but getting used to the size and more layers comes with practice. Build it up.

Does lubing actually help with corner cutting?

A little yeah since it makes it easier for the surfaces to move on each other, but in the end it's mostly about the mechanics of the cube.

My question

I'm really bad at M-slices. Like really bad. Sub 20 is no biggie for me and hasnt been for a while but I still do M slices often with Rr' turns for example. H perm should be one of the fastest algs yet for me it is one of the slower ones, the only one slower is the Z-perm and E-perm. Somehow doing them feels really awkward. Is this common to everyone in the beginning? Would practising Roux help with this? And can practising Roux "hurt" my Fridrich lookahead etc or does it actually help it?

Roux won't damage your Fridrich lookahead too much atleast... I find myself doing Roux quite often

I had a similar problem with M-slicing before, but I tried different techniques for M' and M moves, and then found one suitable for me... As for E-perm, I ahve a fingertrick video on my youtube channel

Alright thanks, my problem with the E-perm is mostly the recognition and especially with the 4x4 since I never can recognize a PLL parity fast enough. Combined to an e-perm I always get a bad time.

For M' I flick my left ring finger BD to DF. For M2' I would double flick left ring finger then left middle (Same technique as M', just double flick). For M I either use my right index BU to UF when my left ring finger is in a weird position, or else I would put my left ring finger on FD then push to DB. I think most people push DB to BU.

So, can I swap them with like a Guhong and put the Shengshou springs back into my dayan?
