Can someone give me a couple of reasons why prisma puzzle timer is good? Want to know before I download it.

just measured my 50mm Zhanchi ( don't have a 42, sorry), and I got a little bit less than .56 inches. That's for a regular center sticker, not for a logo though. .54 inches would be a good bet for a logo sticker.

1) History feature is great, logs all your times + scrambles + shows you best mo100, avg5, avg12, single, current avg5,12, etc etc try it out.
2) Scrambles can be imported just like in CCT, so you don't have to worry about switching to the Weekly Competition tab everytime you solve it
3) Interface is good, in the bottom right it shows a picture of the cube scrambled which can be rotated, so you don't have to worry about getting a scramble wrong
4)You can change your color scheme
5)Works with Stackmat gen2 and PRO (I have heard)
These are just some features, I hope I convinced you to download it.

Um... It has every feature you could ever want? It plugs into Stackmat, records all your times independently of Internet, has non-stupid even layered cube scrambles, every stat you could want. It has all of the good things about every other timer.
Also, it's free, so why not download it and found out yourself?

Looking at getting a Skewb and a Pyramorphinx. What are the best brands for these two puzzles and where can I get them at a good price?

Skewb: Lanlan. I don't have a Pyramorphinx but I think there is just the Meffert's and some really cheap Chinease KO so I'd go for the Meffert's

whats the normal average for someone whos been cubing for a year? i.e. what was your average?

There is no normal average. It depends on how much you practice. I personally have cubed for half a year, and I average 20 seconds on 3x3 now. I expect to average around 15 seconds in half a year

It depends. I know people who have been cubing for four years and aren't even sub-20. I myself was sub-14 after a year of cubing. There's no real standard.
