Hi, can someone give me some tips or videos on looking ahead. Many people just say 'look ahead' but it doesn't help me. I currently use roux and I average in the 40s. Any help is appreciated.
Basically what Yttrium said - once you know what moves you need to do to solve the current step in the solve, be trying to look ahead for new pieces. It's not really something that can be explained in great depth, because you just do it; it takes practice. But if you're looking for a video, this video does a pretty good job of explaining how to go about thinking about look-ahead, although it is targeted to CFOP users.
I would recommend that you do untimed solves. Move as slowly as you like through them, but try to keep turning the cube constantly throughout the solves (just don't cheat yourself into thinking that U U U U U' U' U U y x z' counts as constantly moving), looking for the patterns and then solving them as you look ahead for the moves in your next step. Another thing that some people find helpful but I don't really is metronome solving; turn on a metronome, starting at a slow bpm (beats per minute) rate, doing one turn per beat (unless you're executing algorithms, in which case I don't think it really matters how fast you go), trying to keep a steady beat throughout the solve.
It'll take a lot of practice, but eventually you'll just be able to look ahead without having to think about it. Good luck!
