why are step 3-4 of Roux faster then finishing f2l(pairing and placing F and B edges)+OLL+PLL?

it seems that oll+pll is the fastest way to do LL and placing those 2 edges is really fast when you pair them like you would do 4B(with more freedom since the U layer isnt completed at all so that you dont need to orient them first). Also the recognition, for every steps seems easier (e.i placing the 2 edges doesnt touch the corners orientation making the oll recog very quick). So how is that slower than CLL+L6E?

thanks!

And for me it seems that finishing F2L + OLL + PLL is much slower than CMLL + L6E in most cases. And requires much, much more moves. CMLL and OLL are nearly the same (move counts, number of algorithms, zero-time-recognition, etc.) The recognition and the movecount of the PLL and the L6E is again, nearly the same (e.g., recognize the PLL from 2 side is nearly as hard/easy as a one or almost one look L6E). Plus, every L6E case is finger/fingertrick-friendly (unlike PLL-s like N-perms). So placing DF and DB edges seems unnecessary for me. Of course there are cases when it is easier (e.g., DF or DB or both are already solved), but those are rare.

I would beg to differ. Any PLL can be sub 1. Any OLL can be sub 1. Put those together with excellent recognition, you have a 2.5 second LL.

Haha I really don't know. He says he watched some video about cleaning cubes and they said use hot water, the hotter the better. So he boiled it.
It's really sad too because it was a Zhanchi Silk. And they don't make those anymore. But he didn't boil the core and the torpedoes were fine so I salvaged those and fixed up my own Zhanchi (which was missing parts).

This is the same friend who microwaved his overmodded Lubix Fusion because he thought it would make the lube runnier and faster. Luckily he only melted the core on that one and I patched that one up. But it was overmodded in the first place because he tried and failed the Godly Guhong mods.

He also put vegetable oil and Vaseline in his stickerless Lubix Ultimate Guhong and it went rancid. But I fixed that one too.

But the poor Zhanchi's pieces were all shrunken and bent and not cubical and horrid.
*Shudders*

Ok, so should I use this method? Also, I really want to clean my cube thoroughly, so can I take my core apart and wash only the plastic parts of it, not the screws and washers (I shouldn't wash the whole core, right, because of rust?)?

I would definitely not do that. The water does not have to be heated on a stove. When I still washed pieces I just used the warmest water I could get out of the tap. But I dont wash pieces anymore because it's useless. I just wipe them off with some toilet paper.

To practice lookahead, is it better to go slower or to use a metronome?

For me metronome solving just doesnt work, i try to stay in time with it and then lose all chance of looking ahead. The only way i was able to learn look ahead was to slow down and when i get sick of that i use the brute force method:tu

lol to all these people saying the core doesn't get dirty. Yes the 6-armed plastic core itself doesn't. But the center PIECES that screw onto it do.
To answer your question, wipe off all the metal pieces with a tissue of toilet paper or something like that. You can use tweezers to get the washers out if they get stuck due to the lube.
For the plastic center pieces, you can wash them out if you're thorough, but I usually wrap some toilet paper on a toothpick and stick it down in there. Works well enough for me.
