Is it normal to get slower averagers, but lower standard deviation?

A few weeks ago when I did averages of 100 they usually were between 13.0 and 13.2, with a standard deviation of about 1.6.. But the latest averages of 100 i´ve done have been between 13.5 and 13.7, with a standard deviation of around 1.1..

I call it a sign of 'improving' because imo consistency is more important than single. Having lower SD also implies that you're getting used to different cases and wouldn't get a huge difference in time just because of ugly cases.

I have noticed that when I'm about to break a barrier, let's say sub20 for example, my standard deviation goes up while my avg stays about the same...
I don't know why this happens, but it shows that I am capable of doing those faster times I just need to be able to do it more often.
And I also know that with little more practice my avg will drop and so will my SD because my slower solves become faster... :P
Anyone else noticed this type of pattern?

I think its a common progress that everyone been to. I think it is a transition to a faster 'area' or slower 'area'.

ok, so if i get a FangCun, i am supposed to switch out the hardware for Dayan hardware, right? do i switch out the core springs and screws and washers, or just the springs and washers?

For the Chameleon OLL-case, do you think the "traditional" r U R' U' r' F R F', or y' x' R U R' D R U' R' D' is faster? For me the second one flows smoother, bot is a little harder to execute

i think the second one is "faster" but the rotations will add time because you have to rotate back to see what PLL it is. i would still use the first one.

Anyone here know about the ZZ method? I was watching a tutorial and the first step is to orient all the edges into "good edges" and thus resulting in the F2L becoming SUPER easy and comfortable since it eliminated the need for all F and B turns... So I was thinking of combining the EO of ZZ and the rest of CFOP, anyone know someone who does this, or whether or not it would work well? (I'm not a fast cuber, so... :P)

in ZZ you first orient edges, place the line, then build blocks on the left and right and when you finish you have to do the last layer just like CFOP, only this time the edges don't need orienting.

What you are suggesting is building the EO line, then adding another EO line and by that finishing the cross, and then doing F2L just as CFOP? I think this will just kill the nice R-L-U freedom ZZ gives.

Orienting the edges in the beginning makes building blocks on the left and right very easy, I don't think there's any need for the cross, you just build a 2x2x1 block on one side, another one on the other side, then insert the 2x1x1 blocks like a very easy F2L and you're done with the first 2 layers.

Noob Question: How do people upload videos on here?
Create a YouTube account, upload a video, get a link to the video, embed it here using the "insert video" button in the forum message editor. it will ask for a link, just paste it and it will embed the video.
