OLLs are definitely easier to learn than PLLs, they're shorter on average and most cases have many solid algorithms that have been documented. I'm not against edge control by any means, but in terms of last slot->LL methods it can add an extra look, sometimes just to avoid one of the fastest OLLs.
The reason I say OLL's are harder to learn is that unlike OLL's when you perform a PLL on a solved cube it gives you the same case (other than g perms) so it's easy to practice 1 PLL at a time till your good at it and it's muscle memory. With OLL's you perform the OLL and it gives you an entirely different OLL case, so you have to learn like 4-5 at a time to really understand them and know what case is what.
In the end I plan on learning full OLL, but for the time being, I'm gunna stick with edge control until I have all my PLLs down and have my f2l a little faster.
