So I THINK the directory is in something called "tmp". Does that sound right? Also, I'm a bit confused about the code. Do you input the whole thing as one command, or do you do the "cd" part first, then the "java" part next? By the way, do you include the "//"s in the code as well? Sorry for having to deal with a linux noob like myself.

If it is in tmp then you haven't saved prisma to your hard drive. Go this this link again.
https://bitbucket.org/walter/puzzle-timer/downloads/PrismaPuzzleTimer0.4.jar
When the dialog box pops up, select "Save file." The first time you downloaded, you selected "Open file" which only keeps prisma in temporary memory, meaning that it will get erased when you turn your computer off.

Those two lines need to be inputted as two lines/commands. Be sure to download prisma to your hard drive before typing them in though.

In many coding languages, // means that the user is making a comment for other humans to read, as the computer ignores everything typed after the // on that line.

for example, if prisma was in a directory called "Downloads", type
Code:
cd Downloads
java -jar PrismaPuzzleTimer0.4.jar

Thanks a lot! Sorry it took me forever to figure it out.

Alternatively, you might have been able to right-click on the .jar file and click either 'Open with OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime' or 'Sun Java 6 Runtime' (those are the JREs I have on my computer, at least).

That has never worked for me, as I always get this error:
The file '/home/dan/PrismaPuzzleTimer0.4.jar' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.

Right click > Properties > Permissions > Check the box labeled 'Allow executing file as program'.

should i make my zanchi looser to give it 45 degree corner cutting?

I you think you need to. 45 degree's isn't essential. If you feel you need better corner cutting and don't mind making it a little less stable then give it a shot. It's probably worth trying lots of tensions to find out what is most confortable for you.

why do most OH cubers use a lingyun instead of guhong/zhanchi?
I'd guess it's because it is slightly smaller.

It is really worth it to get a SpeedStacks Timer V2 over the V1? The only differences that I know of between the two is that the V1 is much cheaper but doesn't have a port to hook up to the computer. Also, does the V1 also use the same batteries as the V2? (CR2032)

Bumpity bump.
