The first case the only thing I notice is that the algorithm solves the sune case but also switches the corners with the diagonal corner. Is that how you I should recognize the cases?

Trying to derive some more information. I would think that using a room that you already have memorized instead of a room that you don't have memorized and have to memorize it would be better.
The way I do it is orient edges - 3 algs, then permute the edges - 0 algs (intuitive Sune-type stuffs), then orient corners - sexy move comm spamming (lol), then RDR the corners (well actually URU because I z' first). But I haven't put any work into megaminx so you probably shouldn't listen to me :S
lol. Yeah I sune the edges also, but I have one alg for coners, that I just do 2-3 times. But by adding an F or L to the front as a set up, it turns one alg into three. I was down to 245ish on my chinaminx but stopped solving it for a while and now that I got a MF8, im back down to 3ish, I mainly spend time on my LL, my pb is 16.45 seconds for LL.
Try 3-2-2-2-3. Its pretty fast and simple once you understand it. I would say chain solving (2 edge) is the most common since its what most beginners use. But Faz(Current WR holder in 4x4, or at least he was back when I was in the loop) uses it.
@eric - way better than me. My first mega solve was at least 15 minutes, then again this was back before I was sub 45 on 3x3.
I think I might dig mine out as well. Its packed right now. Only problem is finding the box its in. -_-
