I have an average of 7 second f2l. And yet my average is like 16-17ish... is that normal? I feel like my last layer is wayyyy slower than it should be (which I will definitely work on).

Is standard deviation calculated from the counting solves only, or all the counting and noncounting solves in the average?

The first link and most people lube the core then use silacone spray a la CRC or Jig-a-loo for the pieces

My cross is terrible. My cross is around 6+ seconds. I practice F2L the most.

I usually complete F2L+ Cross around 14 seconds

Opposite problem similar times. When my F2L is good im in the 15-18 second range though =]. As everyone says do blind crosses and dont underestimate the power of the M slice and double layer turn, as well as effective planning.

do you guys think memorizing 1 alg a day is too much?

I tend to learn 2 or 3 new ones and then implement them for a while. That can be days or weeks depending on how much time I can spare to practice. I'm a slow learner though, so it takes time for the new stuff to sink in and become second nature.

I also have other hobbies that,

a) steal time from my cubing devotion
b) require a lot of memorization too. My brain is too old to cope with it all I think ;o)
