What's with all the hate for Pogobat's beginner method video? He's not a pro by any means, but the tutorial is fine for beginners.

I you take a look at the comment, you'll see that the tutorials are hard to follow, they give people "headaches". Also, he uses vaseline, which is the worst lube choice. Lastly, in his method, he does PLL first then OLL, which makes the transition into Fridrich harder, as Fridrich does OLL then PLL. Badmephisto's beginner method is similar to the Fridrich method, thus make transition easier, as his beginner method does OLL then PLL.

People say that it is hard to learn from his because more people visit his, and thus more headaches. Secondly, his is more popular, so most of the "lol teahc me to cuer it in 5 min" people will try to watch his, rather than scroll down to find badmephisto's.

Personally, I don't find anything wrong with dan brown's method, as the vast majority of beginner solvers don't go to learn fridrich. And it isn't even too difficult to learn to apply OLL then PLL anyway. Just get cross, do OLL alg, then apply PLL. The vaseline thing is kinda uneducated, though.

Please no one turn this into a flame war, as I want no part in it.

What is the difference between the Type-C and the Rubik's DIY. I got one a while ago off Ebay and I narrowed it down to these two. It there a trademark, copyright logo, etc. on the different cubes?

I just wanted to point out that this is the same method that is taught in the solution guide that comes with the cube when you buy it.

why do you say Vaseline is bad? (I haven't tried it)

Vaseline

Goopy and well known, this is not the best lube. Being a petroleum based lubricant it will speed the deterioration of the pieces as well as the internal mechanism. Some people recommend using vaseline for a while to wear down the inside of the cube (almost like breaking in the cube) before using other lubricants.

1)He's now retarded.
2)He recommended Vasaline, which is terrible for your cube. At least MMAP said to use it only fro breaking in.
3)He used the cheapass notation from the instructional booklet that came with it.
4)The way the method is taught, it takes a while for the transit to Fridrich. That's why it's A WHOLE LOT EASIER to use Tyson Mao's method. Seriously dude, when I look at the two of them, Tyson Mao is Batman while Dan effing Brown is the joker.

People should understand that Dan Brown's video is not 'introduction to speedcubing', it's 'how to solve the Rubik's Cube'. Of course he isn't going to show you how to be sub-10, cos he's slow himself. But he provides a guide to people who want to learn how to solve the cube.

So his method is a little harder to transit to Fridrich, so what? Those who even bothered to be a speedcuber would take the effort to move to Fridrich or other faster methods. It's not exactly a super hard transition compared to say Roux to Fridrich.

Noobish or not, it was his video that I first watched (and I'm sure many of us here too) that got me into speedcubing, and a lot of us progressed from that.

tl;dr Dan Brown's video works better as an ignition of interest in the cube rather than a speedcubing guide, and I think he did a good job at that

I got a shenshou cube. I also got the ghosthand 2x2. They both came in identical felt bags. Whats the deal?

After removing the stickers on a cube, what can I clean the plastic with?
The sides are pretty sticky.
I don't really want to disassemble the cube.

Goo gone

Any household products?

Ok, I found some Goo Gone at my girlfriend's house. On the back it says to apply and wash in soap and water at the end. Does it matter if I don't do the soap and water part, because I don't feel like taking apart my cube to do this.

Yes! I didn't, & the Goo Gone got in my Type C & is nearly impossible to get out. It ruined my Type C.

I think "shenshou" means "ghosthand" in Chinese, so they are probably the same thing.

the translation for the shengshou cube sould be "the Hand of Glory":p

btw the original meaning of the chinese name for the ghost hand cube is actually "demon hand", not "ghost" hand

Although I've heard that Some GH cubes are just repackaged SS cubes.
