Why are you so stressed about improving? I just practice whatever I feel like practicing (and I seem l be having quite a bit of success with it).

So what? For me, cubing is for fun, improving and winning medals at competitions is just a bonus of me getting do do something that I really enjoy (cubing). Don't cube just to improve, cube to enjoy yourself.

If you use columns first, you can use the same algorithms for almost all cases. You act as if the pairs are a single corner and use double moves to turn them.
If you don't know what columns first is, it is like doing Fridrich F2L pairs before you get the cross, then get the top 4 corners and finish the last 8 edges similarly to Roux. It is possible to save moves when making the pairs by not having the cross. It is also possible to do EG with columns (PEG or Pairs EG).
You could also just do corners first, but columns is much more efficient. Solving the middle layer erally helps reduce cases for the last 8 edges.

Average F2L Alg Speed?
Guys excluding lookahead how fast should F2L algs be? I know it should be as fast as possible but should all F2L algs be sub 1 able(I have a really hard time doing that with algs that are 11 moves long even trying different kinds of fingertricks) do the top cubers(Eric, Anthony, Mats) sub 1 all F2L algs?

So that it is easier to time, do all 4 F2L pairs and average it. What your time should be would depend on how experienced/fast of a cuber you are. If you are going for the WR (5 seconds), you would definently sub 1 each pair.

Yes. In his WR solve, mats got cross and f2l done in less than 3.90 seconds.

i think it's more that they also influence future pairs while solving the first one, i fail to believethat they're doing 11 move algs just to solve 1 pair

It's best not to pressure yourself to sub 1 all of them right away. Just choose algs based on what ones fit your style and the speed will come with time. You should also look into different algs/insertions for different angles to really optimize them.

5 colors on a cube.
Hey guys, quick question - does there need to be stickers/tiles/paint on every side of a cube (for competition)? For example, on a white cube, could I have regular stickers on every side except the white? I know you can't use a stickerless Zhanchi/Guhong/whatever puzzle, but this is different. I looked in the WCA regulations, and they don't specifically address the topic. Thanks for your help.

Dude, your right! started looking at Felik's reconstructions and even though he does have some 11 & 12 move F2L algs
F2L4:U' R' U2 R U' R' U' R U' R' U R, F2L4:R' U R U' R' U2 R U' R' U R etc...) he has algs that solve 2 cases at one time:F2L1:U R U R' L U L', F2L2: R L' U L R', F2L3: R l U' R' U l', F2L3:y' U' R' U R d' L U L') Don't know how much is luck and how much is 'Multislotting'(Where do you get a complete list those algs?) but I guess to be the best you have to look at any and everything that will get you faster.elrog

I'm not sure he uses algs. I think he just sees it and does it. Thats what I do, though I'm not that fast. I just like getting low move counts.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I have been thinking about getting cubesmith's bright set of stickers, and I want to know if it's an illegal color scheme in accordance to WCA. Also, I don't want the pink that comes with it, but I do want a more vibrant Red, but I can't find that anywhere.
Actually, is the bright set really worth it? The lighting in my cubing area is such that I have trouble seeing my D face because the light I have shines almost directly above me, so I think having a more fluorescent color set would help with that. I have heard it's amazing with recognition too.

It is not illegal.
Many places sell a color called fluorescent red, eg. puzzleaddictions (izo stickers), thecubicle (modstickers).
The bright set is worth it if you want a really really bright set. Some people think that since all the colors are bright, recognition and contrast is actually less than something like half brights. Anyhow, it's a little too bright for my eyes...
