Can someone teach me commutator notation or point me to a place that gives me a thorough explanation of it?
Here's an example for the commutator that solves the cycle: UBL>RBU>RFU.

The commutator is U' L' U R U' L U R', and since a commutator is in the form of ABA'B', then you can see that:
A = U' L' U
B = R
A' = U' L U
B' = R'

It doesn't matter whether the interchange or the insertion is assigned A/B. In commutator notation, the commutator is expressed in the form [A, B]. So the inverse moves of A and B are to be left out. So for the commutator above, it could be written as [U' L' U, R].

Questions Questions Please Help !

Can anyone please tell me the prizes of SCMU 2013 ( Speed Cubing Mumbai Unlimited ) !
And also of SCMU 2014.

ANd also help me in buying cube.
Zanchi or a guhong ?

I like clicky , Fast , least lock ups and least pops .
The cube having most of these qualities will be my priority.

And help me lower my times too!! :p

I average around 45 secs and also got a lucky average of 36 secs!
Please Help!

email the organizers to find out prizes.
generally people like the zhanchi. guhong 1 doesn't nave anchors so it will theoretically be more prone to pops. guhong 2 and zhanchi do have anchors.
Guhong2 and Zhanchi are fast (with lube and break in) and depending on the tension YOU decide, lock ups are varied to none at all, to a lot.
For speed the general consensus is PRACTICE. in the how-to, guides, etc. page there are several how to be sub-20 thread. Some of them general the other are more tuned to a specific method. Within these thread you can find the details

You probably want Zhanchi. It is more clicky and more fast. Lock ups and pops depends more on your control of the cube and whether you set the tensions correctly.

I know Ortega for 2x2 and I want to get better. Once I get consistently sub-6, what should I learn next (or what should I learn now if my average is around 7-8)

You can definitely continue to improve with Ortega (I average 4 with it and I rarely practise 2x2), but if you want to learn a more advanced method then CLL is the way to go. Chris Olson has a page with good algs.

I know this isn't cubing related or anything. But, where can you buy a bunch of luer-lock tip caps? I am about to sell some lube here in my area and I can't find it anywhere. the ones on eBay have very expensive shipping to Philippines. I wouldn't want their lube to spill over the place like mine did :(

Which is better for PLL?
1. match up the colors to the center faces (with cube rotation) then execute PLL.
2. do U turns to set up correct position for PLL (no cube rotation), execute PLL then do U turns again to match up LL.
3. or is there a better/faster way?

Is it a good idea to learn how to recognize a PLL case by looking at only 2 faces?
Does it help alot or difference is minute?

Anyone know of any useful OLL / PLL trainer program?

Ordered a guhong v2 from puzzleaddictions on Nov 2012. Puzzle did not arrive.
Emailed a few times but there's no reply. Stickers I've ordered at a much later date had already arrived.
I know Izovire is a reputable guy here so I didn't worry much earlier on but it has been over 3 months and he didn't reply to my numerous emails.
What else can I do?

About PLL:
Definitely 2, cube rotation take much more time than U moves, 2 is called AUF (Adjustment of upper face), everybody does it, the more you practice it the better you'll get at predicting what AUF you have to do at the end.
Doing 1 is just wrong, also some PLL algs don't leave the upper face as it was before you did the algorithm (the z perm I use leaves my upper face off by a half turn).

Recognizing by looking at 2 faces is hard and takes a lot of practice. There's a lot you can do to get better at PLL recognition before 2 face recognition, after you've gotten really good you can attempt 2 face recognition, it's the "best" you can get.

Prisma timer has OLL and PLL trainers, you could also use the program made by Marcel from this forum, look at the software section in this forum.

puzzleaddictions answered all my emails, I got a guhong v2 from them in 2 weeks and my friend ordered a 55mm zhanchi with a lot of support from them (there was a problem with his payment and they even agreed to take a couple of cents from the price to make it work).
I have no idea why they don't answer your emails, maybe his email system marks your messages as spam? have you tried emailing from a different email? have you tried using the support system on the bottom right of their website?

I have searched and searched but I just can't find a good notation page for the 3x3 where the moves are shown with arrows and turns. The pages either contain Java applets or broken images. Does anyone know where I could find a notation page with pictures which have arrows on them? I need some because I have to print out a notation sheet for elementary school students, maybe then the whole learning process would be easier for them.

The One Answer Question Thread

In competitions, is there still no rule about not attempting cubes in multibld to get a faster time? If not then I'm probably going to do 2 cubes at leicester but only attempt 1 cuz 2boaring

Of course not lol. You just get less points. Check out Bob Burton's WCA.
