A megaminx is really a 3x3 with extra faces. You use almost the exact same algorithms to solve it, only but you have to learn how to apply them. You can probably get most of the puzzle solved just by attempting it.

If you can't, just youtube "thrawst megaminx" and click on the first link.

All megaminxs can be purchased for $15 or less.

The absolute cheapest is a QJ Megaminx.

The best is a MF8 Megaminx.

I'm not certain if there's a method other than just manually input setups for each PLL or painting the stickers for each one. I don't think you can reduce it to PLL and tell it to solve all possible cases. I'm not particularly versed in CE so maybe there's some feature I've never used before.

I'm finishing up my classes this week and will be free to practice essentially all day if I wish starting Friday. I want to enter and complete the semi-joke 10000 cubes in 30 days competition. I use Roux and am starting to learn 1-look CMLL. Would keeping my CMLL table out and forcing me to use them each of the 10000 solves teach me CMLL well? Or, would that just be a waste of time?

Well, if you do CTRL + Left Click on a sticker, that tells it that it's oriented. That much I know. I know that if you do that to all the top stickers with the rest of the last layer empty, it will give you all pll algs from shortest depth to whenever you stop it, but that isn't very useful in finding an alg for every pll, especially since some of the longer ones like the Y perm take forever to get to.

For MGLS, has anyone ever done ELS, then pair up the edge and corner, and then use WV? It seems like it would work (less than 40 algs), and would still be quick.

That's a really interesting question. 10,000 solves sounds like it's enough to learn nearly any alg set (especially one as small as 42), but if it was just following the alg on the paper ever time you came to it.... hmm, that's tricky, If you spent just a little time looking at each case and doing over it a few times, that would help a lot, then I guess it would work. I'm nearly finished learning CLL, and what I did was go through all the algs in about a week... but then I got into terrible recollection/recognition problems, but then just doing lots of solves and looking up the cases when I needed to it slowly started to sink in (that was about 2 weeks of solving, way less than 500 solves, and I've nearly go them all sorted in my head now).
So I guess if you spend even 5mins per alg trying to remember it, then did your marathon and looked up the cases when you needed, I'm pretty sure you'd have them nailed long before you hit 10,000 solves. Good luck. And be careful not to mess up your wrists. ;)
