i have got maplin silicone grease with PTFE, it is recommended for DIY cubes, uk cubers, in the lubricant section of the wiki, should i dissasemble the whole cube and spray each piece or just spray the core.

I'd recommend buying this: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=23849

I have Maru, Maplin Silicone grease and that ^. While the Maru is better in the short term, the thicker diff oil lasts longer. (I like putting a little of each sometimes)

Take the cube apart and spray it if you're using the Maplin Silicone spray though.

1. Try the screw method. It's very easy to grasp; so easy i worked it out myself before discovering that it was actually a method.
And it's Rouxy :D

Could you post a link to a decent tutorial of this method? Is there a really good video tutorial or simplified text based tutorial for it somewhere?

I saw a couple online, but they all seem to assume that you have a grasp on solving a sq1 to begin with, which I don't. In fact I've never even touched one lol. I really like the sound of any method that is similar to Roux, I learned Stadler for big cubes for just this reason.

Seconded. I totally missed his post. Thanks for quoting it (it was originally directed to me). :p

I'd love a tutorial, but I've never bothered with Sq-1 before.

So I got my new MF8 square-1 but it turns pretty badly, the / turning is nice but the U+D layers are really stiff. any way to improve them? (I tried loosening it but it just pops more and still feels the same)
Also the caps come off on the small edges, how can I keep them on?

Tutorials are scarce :(
But there's one I know of.
Go to YouTube and search. As far as I know there's just one tutorial.
However, it is mostly intuitive. Maybe if I briefly told you the steps you'd grasp the idea straight away. Which is what I did. In fact I used the method before I found out it existed.

First two blocks. As per normal really.
Corners. Go search up some vandenbergh corner algs; you only need one, and it can be done intuitively by influencing the second block anyway.
LSE- this is tricky. LR edges are done with M2; (1,0)/(-1,-1)/(0,1).
And also find an alg to swap FU and DF, there's one from vandenbergh. Or invent one yourself.
Now, permuting the M slice. This is easily done with the same alg to swap FU and DF, and the parity alg which you can conjugate for your needs.

Hope this helps. If not, PM me then I can explain it fully. It's just annoying to type on my phone right now (computer broke) :/

Edit: for corners you can just use the T-perm that starts with R2 U R2 U' R2.
Funnily enough it works on a square-1 too.

Sounds pretty simple actually. I do plan on trying it intuitively when my SQ1 finally comes in the mail, but it's good to know that I'll be able to find a resource if I get stuck. Thanks!

Youre welcome, it's very simple to work out!
Cubeshape is the troublesome bit though

Edit: have you got a YouTube account?
Because I remember you PMing me about our turn styles... And I'm interested to see yours :)
