I obtained my Guhong today, I assembled it, lubed it with CRC and put a tighter tension on it. To me it feels very cheap, it turns fast yes, but it feels flimsy. The pieces don't seem to be assembled well so they hurt my fingers (from the small gaps between the sections of the corners, this problem also makes it so the cube completely locks up so it can't be turned.)

So my question, has anyone else experienced something like this? And if so, how would I go about fixing it?

The gunong and lingyuns edges and corners are multiple pieces. Disassemble, and press each piece together tightly. It was most likely assembled partially.

Lol, you said you assembled it, and then the pieces weren't assembled well. Do a better job next time. >.<

Dayan Guhong + maru lube or Dayan Guhong + Jigaloo.
Don't say lubix.
Maru Lube FIRST, then Jigaloo once it starts getting slow on you.
why dont say lubix? its the best for the guhong. Between those 2, I would do the jigaloo just because maru is really only good for a few days before you need to relube, and it leaves some milky crusty crap in your cube
Maybe he can't obtain Lubix at the moment.

Try Jigaloo, Lubix, or Maru Lube.

In a 30-second solve using intuitive F2L, 2-step OLL, and full PLL, please break down how many seconds should be allocated for each step (cross, F2L, OLL, PLL)

Depends on your style. For me if I get 30 seconds it's usually because my cross took 6 of them. If you are going to work on anything though, make it F2L. 2 step OLL should take maybe 6 seconds, and PLL 3-4.

Question: Recently I've been solving F2L pairs before finishing the cross. Is this a bad thing to do?

@ Einstein - 4-16-5-5 ish.

@ Erzz - Not necessarily. I do it sometimes. I never get really fast times, but sometimes it can be fine/avg. Usually happens when I see an easy 2x2x2 but can't/don't plan the rest of cross. If I then see another easy pair I'll insert it before finishing cross. This is different from a traditional x-cross.

Squeeze the pieces together tighter and in a few dozen solves it'll feel Alot smoother.

Well you should be able to execute PLLs in 2-4 secs, same with OLLs, the intuitive part is most likely what is limiting you atm. I'm assuming you do cross on bottom and can decide beforehand how you'll solve the cross.
Cross 4s tops, (barely 2 TPS)
OLL 2-4s
PLL 2-4s
Rest is allocated to F2L ~18-22s

Not that it matters at all.

what is the optimal lube for a v cube?i recently bought my v cube 5 and i lubed it with CRC 808 silicone but it does not turn that smoothly. Also,i am having trouble with poping out the wing edge.I tried to use a key,but my cube proved too tight.Any suggestions or ideas to take out the piece and how to mod the cube?

do you know any way for training a particulare COLL scenario? I'm trying to learn the headlights cases...is there any website or program which gives me all possibile scrambles to headlight?

Thanks.

It probably isn't the lube you are using, they are just crap straight out of the box. If you mod the corners (sand down the bumps) not only will the clicking go away but it will make a little more space inside the cube and require less breaking in.

Use jig-a-loo for V-Cube 5. Then work with it for ~1 minute. This can loosen up the cube and therefore should be easy to take off a wing edge.

Yeah, out of the box it isn't very smooth. You have to break it in. I've done the mod and I personally didn't see any difference, but still try. The key is breaking it in.
