If you've been stuck at a time for a while, I find that, often, taking a break, even for a single day, helps me overcome a plateau.

The common definition of edge orientation is that an edge is oriented correctly if, when placed in its correct position with <L,R,U,D>, it is oriented correctly. A consequence is that <L,R,U,D> can't change the orientation of an edge- it would be a horrible definition for edge orientation if the process for determining edge orientation could change edge orientation. (Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle for the cube? xD)
I don't know if that's satisfying enough for you. Ryan Heise's site has a bit of information on it. This thread (http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21630&highlight=proof+permutation) is a good read, also. Post 27 has some good info.

THAT'S A BINGO!
*cough*

I found it. I should've thought to check Jaap's site immediately. That should give you what you're looking for. The thread that lead me there (http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17908&highlight=proof+permutation) is also good reading.

Thanks! Jaap's site was very useful.
What I meant about the edges is that even though it's obvious that a <L,R,U,D> scramble doesn't change orientation, I wouldn't know how to write a proof to show this. I'd never seen a "proof" before looking at the CP proofs on Jaap's page. But I think I get the idea now. :)

How do you perform d ? in f2l, you perform d instead of cube rotation right ? i think i'm doing it wrong :fp i perform d = cube rotation + U :fp

<L,R,U,D> can't change orientation. That's just the common way to define orientation. No proof is needed.

Hold the U layer with your left (or right) and turn the bottom two layers with your other hand.

I always think of it like if you have an edge on U with a sticker on U, a U move doesn't change the orientation of the sticker, and if you put it on UR, an R move will always have it not on R, so when you put it back on UR, the sticker will always be facing the same way.

Could someone link me a tutorial to whatever method people use to solve a magic in 1-2 seconds? I have been looking but I have not been finding what I've been looking for.

If I'm going to buy 3 different 2x2s which should I go for?
I've not really solved 2x2s (even though I own 4) so I don't have any preferences or preconceived expectations.

How do people think about the cube JSK, i used search function but didn't get much info about the cube. My friend is going to Japan so i think i should get one :p
