Are Yau and Hoya the same in terms of speed? I like Yau, but the centers are just painful. Hoya seems much easier to me. The main problem is that Hoya doesn't have too many resources. Also, while doing 3-2-3, is it better to slice Uw for the 3 pairing? I do Uw'

I've tried both, and I think Yau is a lot better. Basically when you are doing L4C, don't do it center by center, do it by making a bunch of 2x1 bars and then lining them up. Basically just keep your hand on the layer that has your cross edges, and do an Rw move (in terms of 3x3, so the outermost 3 layers) to do x rotations. And I feel that Uw is better, because the edge you want to insert will be on the right, so it's more fingertrick friendly, but it's up to you. What I do for a lot of little variations in certain methods on big cubes or other puzzles is I just do like an Ao5 with each one and see which I like the most.

Hope this helped!

I'll speak like Yoda.
Quite helpful this was. Try I will both methods. Learn I will half centers. Practice I will lots. I need to assemble my Aosu that I cleaned out(Non Yoda.)

Lol you can do Uw' and still insert edges on the right. Just use the piece that gets moved to BR as your first reference and insert the matching edge to FR, y' and continue from there.

Whoops, I meant the first edge to insert when you slice will be on the right. Lookahead is better for me since I'm used to doing most F2L work on the FR area, as well. It really doesn't make much difference though. I suck at 4x4 so I'm not much of a resource.

Personally I prefer Hoya, because with Yau it slows me down searching for the pieces to make the cross edges. Yau feels "free form" but Hoya feels more structured at this step, and I like having the structure. On the 4x4 discussion thread you will find lots of tricks for pairing and inserting cross edges for different cases. Someone has set up a web page for those, but I can't find the link right now.

It's all personal preference of course, so you're right to try both. I'm about 2 minutes on 4x4.

The main problem is that Hoya doesn't have too many resources.
The first post in this thread has a lot of very good resources; there is all the information you need in that thread, and if there is anything you can't find you can always ask there. Unfortunately, that first post hasn't been updated in a while, so starting from here the useful videos are all in the thread, rather than in one post. However, there still definitely are enough resources for Hoya, even if there aren't as many as Yau. You'll find with Yau, just like CFOP, most of the resources are just saying the same thing.

the tensions are quite loose....

Clean out your cube by using convinsa's tutorial. Lube it and tension it. It will be Aosume!
