Is there a method for 4x4 BLD that doesn't require commutators?
I can't seem to understand them!! I've tried and tried. It's getting a bit frustrating

You can use R2 for corners (or another method that you use for 3x3), r2 for edges and U2 for centers. It's commutator based, but you don't need to understand commutators to use it.

Didn't want to post in the wrong place or create a useless or repeated thread so here it goes.

My girlfriend, bless her heart, got me a megaminx for Christmas. It's not by any means meant to be speed solved, i was just wondering if any of you knew what this particular one is as it doesn't have a brand name or anything.

Below are some pics...

THANKS!

It's just know as the "chinaminx."

Awesome, thanks

In block-building your always supposed to be efficient, is this move efficient, or speed efficient. Example, let's say I have this scramble: (R U R' U')x3, in block-building, would I solve using (R U R' U')x3 (12 moves) or R U2 R' F' U2 F U' R U R' (10 moves)?

Depends, they both have the same QTM value, and whether or not EO is solved is important. The first one is a safe bet to use.
