wtf are torpedoes and how can I tell if my cube has them?

I did do a search for this question already, but I couldnt see it answered...

How different are competitions in china compared to the US?
Planning on travelling there next year and going to some competitions but I can barely read, don't know any of the cubing terminology, no accent in my chinese, and can only understand mandarin. And is there a place on the chinese forums for cube meets? Completely lost because I can only read ~50% of the words on the website.

What to do with an old Rubik's brand cube?

I have this old Rubik's brand cube from about 5-6 weeks ago. Originally, I put tons of vaseline in it, and then I got a stickerless Zhanchi and never used it. Recently, I've been thinking about what to do with it. I cleaned it out yesterday and took off all the peeling stickers, as well as took off all of the adhesive residue with a credit card (I was too lazy to clean it again). I've been thinking about getting Lubix, doing some mod to it with sandpaper, lubing it and restickering it, so that I can at least use it for something. What mod should I do (Florian?) and how does that plan sound? Currently it just looks like some DIY that I never stickered and just left on my desk.

The cheapest speed cubes you can buy are much better than a heavily modded Rubik. After trying a ZhanChi I think you'll be disappointed by any time you spend modding the Rubik.

I guess that's pretty fair to say. I think I'll just tile it with cubesmith tiles and leave it around as deco.

EDIT: Then, what would you suggest I sticker my cube with to make it as nice looking as possible, even if the turning is horrendous?

Maybe an obscure set from somewhere like Cubesmith. Possibly metallic or shades of grey. If you're not gona be using it for speedsolving you'll need a reason to pick it up and play with it.

Hey everyone! What would be the appropriate forum section or subforum to post a written store review that isn't accompanied by a video? Not a hardware/cube review, but a store in general? Thanks all!
