Since going to my first competition and being advised to use the K4 method for 4x4, I've tried it out, and it's been going really well. In the last step where the guide suggests using commutators for the last edges, I struggled at first but now I think I've got the hang of it, but it takes a while to think about it in advance and I also can't do it without writing down what I'm doing as I do it, to refer to when I'm doing the inverses. In some cases it's a pizza cake, but in general it seems like a very slow process, at least for me, at the moment. Is it possible to do it without pen and paper, and do I just need practice?
Edit: I just needed practice. Now every case is a pizza cake.

Bumping this, since posts get buried very easily in this thread.

Also, question for myself here, what are some solve breakdowns (splits) for the following 5x5 times:
3:00
2:40
2:20

And the following 7x7 times:
10:00
8:30
7:00

And the following Megaminx times:
3:00
2:30
2:00

I don't need all of them to be answered by the same person, but if you could just provide some, that would be great.

so I ran out of lube for my cube i can't buy more and was wondering if there were any household items i could use as substitute o.o

Can you put the ball-bearings back in a Skewb? If so, how?

My Skewb popped and a corner fell to the floor and a ball-bearing popped out. I tried to put it back in but it went in too far. Is there anything I can do?

Is there a best way to look for a cross during inspection using CFOP with a color neutral approach? That is, a way to look for a cross solution that will give the quickest solution to execute. If so, what is it? Is such an approach specific to the individual? By that, I mean that Person A's approach may not work as well as for Person B.

What is the best way for a beginner to look for crosses while being a color neutral CFOP user?

I have been color neutral ever since I started speedsolving in 2008 or 2009. I have been cubing on and off since then. I did not use inspection until some time in late 2012 or early 2013. I would just start solving the 3x3 or 4x4 (or whatever puzzle) immediately. I would just choose a random side to start on. I have also taken at least two multi-month long breaks to try methods other than CFOP (ZZ and Roux).

Because of these things, my cross finding and cross solving abilities are very underdeveloped. My cross solving abilities are also out of proportion with the rest of my solves.

I will be returning to CFOP very soon after my recent (one week ago) trial with Roux. I am wondering what is the best way for me to start doing the cross.

Thank you.
I am not color neutral, but I have the same problem. I always just start the solve without inspection. I can solve the cross blindfolded by tracking the pieces, but I can't just "see" a solution to it the way I do with an F2L case. Help!?
